The Business Metadata Team at LSEG is a hybrid function that sits at the intersection of data governance and metadata management. We are responsible for ensuring that metadata—the data about data—is accurately captured, curated, and applied to drive our data platform, support regulatory compliance, and enable business growth. Our work underpins the LSEG-Microsoft partnership and supports internal and external customers across the enterprise.
Role Summary
As a Metadata Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality metadata that powers our data catalogue, automates our data platform, and enables effective data governance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure metadata is collected, modelled, and published to support strategic initiatives, regulatory compliance, and customer needs. You will be expected to bring strong analytical, technical, and communication skills to support metadata initiatives across multiple datasets and products.
Key Responsibilities
Metadata Management & Strategy
  • Collect, curate, and publish metadata to support the data platform and catalogue strategy.
  • Ensure metadata quality, consistency, and compliance with governance standards.
  • Support metadata modelling using open standards like DCAT and ODRL.
  • Collaboration & Customer Engagement
  • Partner with product owners, data governance office, technology architects, and data managers.
  • Work with external customers and internal teams to understand metadata requirements.
  • Educate customers on the value and usage of metadata.
  • Governance & Compliance
  • Implement data governance frameworks aligned with LSEG policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Maintain data lineage documentation and ensure metadata supports traceability and auditability.
  • Collaborate with governance teams to enforce policies and stewardship roles.
  • Tools & Automation
  • Leverage metadata management tools and technologies to drive automation and efficiency.
  • Find opportunities for process improvements and tool adoption.
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of metadata processes and standards.
  • Develop and track performance metrics related to metadata quality and governance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
  • 3–5 years of experience in metadata management, data governance, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of metadata concepts and data governance principles.
  • Experience working with multiple datasets (e.g., indices, reference data, company data).
  • Familiarity with LSEG products (e.g., Workspace, DataStream, DataScope, RDP).
  • Technical proficiency in SQL, Excel, Macros, Power Query, Python or Power Apps.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with metadata modelling and open standards (DCAT, ODRL).
  • Professional certifications in data governance or metadata management.
  • Experience in the financial data domain.
