Contract Staff Accountant

Position Overview

The Contract Staff Accountant provides experienced accounting support and hands-on financial operational assistance. This role works under the direction of the CFO to support execution of key accounting activities, contribute to financial reporting processes, and help maintain continuity in core accounting operations. Full-time hourly contract role starting at 3 months with possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the monthly close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting financial schedules, operating under the review and direction of the CFO.
  • Prepare and deliver financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheet analyses, and variance summaries for leadership review.
  • Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations and resolve or escalate discrepancies as appropriate.
  • Execute day-to-day accounting operations, including billing support, collections coordination, and vendor disbursement processing.
  • Coordinate accounting entries and financial review activities related to payroll processing in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Prepare and validate partner referral commission calculations and related financial reporting data.
  • Perform financial data analysis to support forecasting inputs, budgeting activities, and operational decision-making as requested by the CFO.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation to support internal reporting and audit readiness.
  • Support execution of established accounting processes and financial control practices, ensuring consistency and compliance with company standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to facilitate timely and accurate financial information flow.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and general financial reporting practices.
  • Demonstrated experience performing full-cycle accounting activities, including close support and reconciliation review.
  • Experience and proficiency with QuickBooks online accounting system.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel capabilities, including financial data analysis and reporting support.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and financial data integrity awareness.
  • Ability to apply sound professional judgment while working under executive leadership direction.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines independently.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal stakeholders across departments.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Prior experience supporting accounting functions in a SaaS, technology, or growth-oriented business environment strongly preferred.
  • CPA or advanced accounting certification is a plus.

  • Regular use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and telephone or video conferencing tools is required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication.
