Contracts Senior Engineer

Job purpose

The Contracts Senior Engineer is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, ensuring that all contracts are in compliance with the company policy, and all applicable laws and regulations. This role provides expertise in contract formation, administration, and risk management for large scale projects.


Key Accountabilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, subcontracts, and agreements related to engineering or construction projects.
  • Ensure that all contractual documentation is accurate, complete, and in compliance with the company’s standards and legal requirements.
  • Prepare tender documentation and assist in the evaluation of bids and proposals.
  • Identify and assess potential risks associated with contracts and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure that contract terms and conditions protect the company from excessive risk or liability.
  • Monitor the progress of contracts to ensure compliance with terms and conditions.
  • Oversee the administration of contracts, including variations, extensions, and claims.
  • Monitor contract progress and ensure all parties fulfill their contractual obligations.
  • Lead negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to secure favorable contract terms.
  • Negotiate contract amendments, change orders, and variations as necessary throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work closely with legal counsel to resolve contractual disputes and manage new contracts and claims.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure that contracts support project delivery timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Assist in the coordination of contract close-out procedures, including final accounts and settlements.
  • Track contractual milestones and payment schedules to ensure timely invoicing and receipt of payments.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in contract management within engineering or construction projects.
  • Strong background in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and agreements.
  • Solid understanding of risk assessment, claims, variations, and contract administration.
  • Proficiency in preparing tender documents and evaluating bids.
  • Strong knowledge of contractual standards, legal requirements, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP or FIDIC are a plus.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work cross‑functionally with project, legal, finance, supply chain, and engineering teams.
