Controls Engineer / Automation Engineer

Overview

This role supports the design, programming, and implementation of automated control systems within large-scale warehousing and material handling environments. You’ll work hands-on with PLCs, HMIs, and system integrations to bring advanced automation projects to life — from concept through commissioning.

The company is rapidly expanding its automation business line, offering a strong opportunity to join early, contribute to multiple projects, and grow into a key technical role.

Responsibilities

  • System Design & Development: Design and develop industrial control systems including PLC programs, HMIs, and integration with sensors, actuators, and other automation components.
  • PLC Programming: Write, test, and debug PLC code (Rockwell RSLogix, Siemens TIA Portal) for automation and process control applications.
  • HMI Development: Create user-friendly operator interfaces for real-time monitoring and control.
  • System Integration: Connect systems using industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet, API integrations).
  • Commissioning & Troubleshooting: Perform on-site commissioning, testing, and system validation; resolve control and integration issues.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate functional design specs, test procedures, and as-built documentation.
  • Technical Support: Provide expertise during installation and ongoing operation.
  • Collaboration: Partner with engineering, coordination, project management, and finance teams to ensure projects are delivered successfully, on time, and within scope.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all workplace and equipment safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience designing and programming PLC-based control systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience (not open to new graduates), ideally seeking candidates with 2-5 years in PLC programming and automation.
  • Proficiency with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, etc.).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in automation environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and system layouts.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills; able to work cross-functionally.
  • Willingness to travel for project commissioning and on-site support (project-dependent).

Preferred Attributes

  • Knowledge of warehouse automation, material handling, or advanced process control systems.
  • Experience supporting or leading automation redesign projects within industrial facilities.
  • Interest in long-term growth within a rapidly expanding automation division.
  • Capable of operating independently and driving high-performance project outcomes.
