Summary
We are seeking a Controller to join a fast-paced private family office environment. This individual will be responsible for financial organization, including accounting, bill-pay, budgeting, forecasting and administrative operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, discreet, and digitally savvy, with the ability and willingness to handle a wide range of personal and business tasks in a fast-paced setting.
This is a full-time position, for candidates located in the Des Moines, IA area. The role is remote, though commonly in-person meetings will occur. Compensation will be market-competitive and based on experience.
This position is ideal for candidates with experience as an accountant, family office coordinator, or finance administrator. At least five years of experience in accounting/bookkeeping is required, with experience operating in a self-directed environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Accounting Support
- Maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks, including transaction categorization and reconciliation as well as provision of monthly financials for multiple entities
- Manage and execute bill payments, and track recurring expenses
- Support professional and personal budgeting, including forecasting and tracking against plan
- Organize invoices, tax documents, and other financial records
- Set up/organize financial statements and reporting processes for new entities and/or newly acquired entities
- Lead the implementation of new accounting processes/technologies/procedures as needed
- Prepare and record appropriate accrual and adjusting entries for multiple entities, including accounting for intercompany transactions appropriately
- Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to financial reporting to support efficiency, decision-making, and overall execution of strategic objectives
- Liaise with outside accountants, tax preparers, financial advisors and strategists, legal and other vendors to support comprehensive financial and organizational management
- Prepare and file payroll, sales and property taxes as needed
Administration Assistance
- Provide administrative support for professional and personal matters
- Organize digital and physical files
- Attend meetings
- Manage physical mail
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting and/or finance
- 5+ years of accounting/bookkeeping experience (required)
- Prior experience working in a self-directed environment (required)
- Prior experience working in or supporting a family office or ultra-high-net-worth individual (preferred)
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with personal financial statements
- Experience with inventory management processes
- Digitally savvy: comfortable navigating technology, online services, and digital tools efficiently
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- High level of discretion, professionalism, and trustworthiness
- Detail-oriented with strong financial and administrative accuracy
- Clear communicator with excellent multitasking skills

Pay: $100,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
