Role Description

The Controller will be responsible for the overall financial management of the Resort including Club Management, HOA and Real Estate Venture, and work closely with the Director of Finance and accounting team to ensure the Resort's financial success. The position will report directly to the Brasada Director of Finance and will direct the work of the Brasada Accounting Team, including the Assistant Controller.

General Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Resort's accounting and finance team including hiring, training, and mentoring.
  • Oversee the Resort's accounting and financial systems including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, point of sale, inventory, and property management systems.
  • Oversee the monthly financial closing process including the posting of journal entries. Ensure that prescribed timeframes are met each month.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports ensuring the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and the company's financial reporting standards.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations including fixed assets. Provide sufficient documentation detail to support each account balance.
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable processes including meeting regularly with appropriate intra department team members to review outstanding accounts. Organize and track the team's collection efforts.
  • Ensure successful daily and monthly cash management in compliance with the company's policy.
  • Prepare monthly tax reporting and ensure accurate sales, use, and occupancy tax returns and all other local and state tax filings as required
  • Assist outside auditors and provide needed information for periodic internal and external audits
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting as requested
  • Continually looks for opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department and hotel through the leveraging of technology and processes
  • Uphold internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Uphold the Resort's values of caring and respect in every interaction.
  • Ability to communicate in detail in all required meetings.

Skills/Traits

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficient in accounting software.
  • Five years or more of related experience required. Accounting experience in the hospitality field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Homeowner Associations (HOA) and real estate development is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred.
