The Controller overall responsibility is the running of the business from a financial perspective. This means making sure there are strategies and controls in place to keep the business in good fiscal health, as well as making sure each employee involved in accounting performs to those standards.

The Controller is responsible for oversight and leadership of the Accounting department operations including monthly reporting, preparing financial statements, accounting analysis, accounts payable, fixed assets, and assisting with financial audits. In addition, this role interfaces with all levels within the organization which requires strong interpersonal and communications skills. This role relies on experience and sound judgment to plan and successfully accomplish departmental and individual goals.

Specific Job Functions:

  • Managing the company’s financial transactions
  • Developing plans for the company’s financial growth
  • Preparing the company’s financial reports including Annual Report to shareholders
  • Taking part in the budgeting process
  • Managing the company’s accounting employees
  • Providing financial training to employees when needed
  • Evaluating and managing financial risk, including managing interest risk & ALCO/IRR reports
  • Drive efficiencies and automation in the accounting process

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent financial management skills
  • Must maintain a detail-oriented, investigative, and independent working ability
  • Organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interpersonal leadership, relationship building and planning skills
  • Ability to act autonomously and make decisions within scope of authority
  • Must be punctual and maintain scheduled attendance
  • Knowledge and experience with bank computer and operating system requirements
  • Proficient PC skills to include working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Ability to communicate professionally with a diverse population of customers, agencies and employees both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment and maintain a commitment to accuracy and timelines
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills including written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in accounting software

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required
  • Five years or more of related experience required
  • Previous management experience preferred
  • This position will comply with all BSA compliance laws and regulations
