The Fund Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the fund, including NAV review, expense oversight, payment management, and the fund close process. This role serves as a key control function, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and integrity across fund accounting, operations, and vendor-related activities.
Key ResponsibilitiesFund Accounting & NAV Oversight
- Review and validate fund NAVs prepared by the operations or external administrator
- Perform analytical reviews and investigate variances, performance drivers, and discrepancies
- Ensure accurate accounting treatment of investments, expenses, and accruals
- Liaise with fund administrators and operations teams to resolve issues and improve processes
Expense Management & Payments
- Review and approve fund expenses, ensuring proper allocation and documentation
- Oversee the end-to-end payment process, including invoice review, approval, and execution
- Manage relationships with vendors, brokers, and service providers regarding billing and payments
- Ensure timely settlement of fund-related obligations
Fund Close & Financial Reporting
- Lead or support the monthly/quarterly fund close process
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records
- Coordinate with auditors and support audit deliverables
Vendor & Contract Oversight
- Review and manage agreements, contracts, and fee arrangements
- Track and validate expenses and payments
- Ensure compliance with agreed terms and internal policies
Controls & Process Improvement
- Maintain and enhance internal controls around NAV review, expenses, and payments
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve efficiency
- Support implementation of new systems or processes as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or equivalent preferred
- 2+ years of experience in fund accounting, audit, or investment management finance
- Strong understanding of fund structures, NAV calculations, and financial reporting
- Experience working with fund administrators and/or operations teams
