We are seeking a meticulous Controller to oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring precision, efficiency, and compliance in our financial processes.
About the Role
The Controller will manage and execute daily accounting tasks, financial reporting, and compliance activities for the primary operating entity and related entities. This hands-on, administrative role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the company’s operational objectives. This role will directly manage an accounting team to report to company ownership. The Controller is expected to bring both technical accounting depth and leadership capability to a growing, multi-entity environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Operations
- Maintain and reconcile accounting ledgers, records, and general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP across all entities.
- Own and manage the month-end and year-end close process, including maintaining a close checklist to ensure timely and accurate financial statement preparation.
- Prepare and distribute accurate monthly financial reports and statements, including consolidated financials across four affiliated entities.
- Manage intercompany transactions, including due to/from balances and eliminations, to produce accurate consolidated financial reporting.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash receipts, and bank account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness through the Accounting Manager.
- Manage cash flow, including bank account transfers, monthly bank statement reconciliations, and forward-looking cash flow projections.
- Own the budgeting and forecasting process, including preparation, variance analysis, and regular reporting to company ownership.
- Coordinate with external CPA firm on annual tax return preparation, reviews, and any other compliance engagements.
Management and Oversight
- Directly supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance, review, and accountability for day-to-day accounting operations.
- Develop and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and best practices across all entities
Compliance and Internal Controls
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial, tax, and regulatory requirements.
Administrative Support
- Serve as a point of contact with the company's insurance agency to manage insurance and risk programs.
- Support general HR tasks using the HR platform, including employee onboarding, benefits administration, and maintaining employee records.
- Perform additional tasks or duties as assigned by company ownership.
Qualifications
- General: Honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, ability to work independently, take initiative, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
- Experience: 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Experience in construction, manufacturing, or a related industry preferred. Multi-entity or consolidation experience strongly preferred.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Licensure: CPA license preferred but not required based on experience.
- Accounting Skills: Strong understanding of GAAP, including multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting, and financial statement preparation.
- Technology Skills: Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office (Excel and Outlook required). Comfort with learning and integrating new software into accounting systems.
- Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational skills with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and confidentiality.
- Communication Skills: Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with discretion in handling sensitive information.
