Controller

Job Summary:

The Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of the company.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Oversees training programs and identifies training needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
  • Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
  • Manages the annual audit.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Encourages employees to report problems and concerns and ensures that outcomes are viewed as fair.

5. Decisiveness: The employee investigates all viable options, along with the potential consequences of each, and then makes timely decisions. Can direct a group through this process and does not hesitate to make difficult decisions. Can speed up or slow down the process as needed.

6. Organizational IQ: The employee understands the internal climate of the organization, including the most productive channels of communication, and makes use of the appropriate channels to achieve goals. Understands the unwritten protocols and political aspects of how communication takes place.

6. Teamwork: The employee is a team player who contributes valuable ideas, opinions and feedback. Communicates openly and honestly and can be counted on to fulfill commitments made to others.

Skills & Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with 3-5 years experience working with business financials in an accounting role and previous experience as an Accounting Manager required. Strong people supervision skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required. Possess strong organizational and communication skills and abilities to work independently on detail-oriented projects, multi-task, and prioritize workflow based on departmental goals and priorities. Communication skills will include the ability to convey financial information to non-financial people.
