Controller (Contract)

Our St. Louis county client, a mission-driven non-profit organization, is seeking an experienced consultant to conduct a comprehensive review of its current policies, procedures, and internal controls. This engagement will focus on assessing existing operational, financial, and governance frameworks and providing practical recommendations to strengthen efficiency, compliance, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate existing organizational policies, procedures, and internal control structures
• Assess alignment with nonprofit governance best practices, regulatory requirements, and operational needs
• Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and potential risk areas across administrative and financial processes
• Provide clear, actionable recommendations to improve policies, controls, and procedural documentation
• Collaborate with leadership to prioritize improvements and outline an implementation roadmap
• Deliver a written summary report with findings, recommendations, and suggested next steps

Qualifications

• Proven experience reviewing and strengthening policies, procedures, and internal controls (preferably in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations)
• Strong background in governance, compliance, risk management, or operational improvement
• Experience conducting organizational assessments or operational audits
• Ability to translate complex findings into practical, actionable recommendations
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Degree in Accounting with a preference for a CPA and/or public (audit) experience.

Pay: From $90.00 per hour
