Conveyor Commissioning Engineer (Traveling)
Type: Contract / Temp-to-Hire
Travel: Nationwide project travel required
Pay Range: $40 – $55/hr (DOE Jr or Mid-Level)
Per Diem: Project-based (typically $125–$170/day)
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Conveyor Commissioning Engineer to support the startup, testing, and commissioning of automated material handling systems in distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and large-scale logistics environments.
This role will work directly with project managers, controls engineers, and installation teams to bring conveyor systems online, verify operational performance, and ensure systems meet engineering and customer specifications prior to final acceptance.
The ideal candidate combines mechanical troubleshooting ability with working knowledge of controls systems, including PLC diagnostics, sensors, and VFDs.
This position requires travel to project sites nationwide and offers the opportunity to work on high-profile automation systems used by major distribution and fulfillment operations.
Junior Commissioning Engineer
Experience: 2–5 years
Typical Rate: $40 – $45/hr
Typical Responsibilities
- Assist senior commissioning engineers during system startup
- Verify I/O signals, sensors, and control devices
- Support VFD configuration and motor verification
- Perform basic PLC diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Conduct mechanical and electrical system checks
- Assist with startup documentation and reporting
Mid-Level Commissioning Engineer
Experience: 5–10 years
Typical Rate: $48 – $55/hr
Typical Responsibilities
- Lead startup and commissioning of conveyor systems
- Perform PLC troubleshooting and system diagnostics
- Verify system functionality through SCADA and HMI platforms
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical installation teams during startup
- Support system integration testing
- Manage Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
- Troubleshoot system performance issues and implement corrective actions
- Provide technical support to installation and maintenance teams
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years experience commissioning conveyor or automated material handling systems
- Working knowledge of PLC-based automation systems (Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
- Experience troubleshooting:
- sensors

- VFDs
- conveyor controls
- Ability to read and interpret:
- electrical schematics
- mechanical drawings
- layout prints
- Familiarity with HMI / SCADA systems
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability
- Ability to travel nationwide for project assignments
- Strong communication and reporting skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience commissioning systems such as:

- Daifuku
- TGW
- SSI Schaefer
- Experience with distribution center automation or parcel systems
- Background working in Amazon, FedEx, UPS, or large distribution facilities
- Prior experience supporting system integration and startup teams
