Richland Library is seeking to hire a Full-Time Manager at our Cooper location.

Sample Duties:

  • Effectively demonstrates characteristics of being enthusiastic, outgoing, and strongly customer-service oriented, including the application of Richland Library’s customer engagement standards.
  • Greets customers & successfully ascertains individualized needs and/or requirements for each customer.
  • Engages, encourages, and assists diverse customers in all areas of the Library in a welcoming, professional, and respectful manner.
  • Leads branch staff in effectively modeling enthusiasm and commitment to the Library’s mission, values, and strategic plan.
  • Manages location Library open to the public 66 hours per week.
  • Supervises staff of professionals and paraprofessionals. Responsible for keeping location adequately staffed at all hours branch is open.
  • Carries out all personnel duties for branch; interviews, checks references and selects staff; trains and supervises professional and paraprofessional staff; prepares and conducts probationary and annual evaluations; approves employee leave and arranges for staff coverage in emergency situations. Identifies and addresses staff disciplinary problems and /or grievances under the direction of Director of Library Experience, Branches and other administrative personnel.
  • Monitors technology and communicates effectively with appropriate staff when problems with technology occur.
  • Responsible for overseeing operation and maintenance of Library building and grounds (HVAC, cleaning, lights, etc.), and responsible for dealing effectively with emergencies related to building and grounds; communicates with appropriate staff.
  • Plans, recommends, and follows through with additions, changes and updates to facility, as appropriate; responsible for reprogramming or redesigning the physical layout and functionality of the branch, analyzing and responding to changing uses and needs.
  • Resolves circulation problems; often requires dealing with complex circulation situations (out-of-county registrations, non-resident property owners, fines, and lost book problems); interprets and communicates Library policies and procedures to customers and staff.
  • Cultivates partnerships and collaborations with appropriate entities, businesses, cultural and non-profit organizations, etc.
  • Deals with difficult customer situations; requires enforcement of the Richland Library Code of Conduct and following guidelines established by security manager for Library.
  • Supervises scheduling and use of meeting room.
  • Responsible for evaluating and analyzing branch collection as part of an orderly collection development process; maintains current collection based on needs of customers.
  • Conducts staff meetings and participates in staff training.
  • Assists in budget preparation for branch.
  • Assists in overall planning for branch, including possible expansion/relocation.
  • Maintains statistical records and reports for branch.
  • Provides readers advisory services.
  • Plans and supervises programs for the branch.
  • Makes administrative decisions for other branches in the absence of an on-site supervisor.
  • Plans, develops, and conducts programs for and with community groups.
  • Responsible for appropriate, effective utilization of volunteers.
  • Keeps informed of professional developments; attends professional meetings.
  • Represents the Library at community and group meetings.
  • Develops and participates in special activities as assigned.
  • Performs other associated duties as required or assigned.

Requirements:

  • Eligible for or hold South Carolina Certification.
  • Two years of satisfactory professional library experience in library of recognized standing after receiving the degree.
  • Valid driver’s license with safe driving record.
  • Ability to perform job functions.

Where: Richland Library Cooper, 5317 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206

Starting Salary: $55,575 plus excellent benefits.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week on rotating weekend schedule:

Mon 9:00 am- 5:30 pm, Tues. 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wed. - Thurs. 9:00 am - 5:30 pm. Alternate Friday and Saturday 9:00 am- 6:00 pm.

Job Classification Level 2 Grade 7 (FLSA Status: Exempt)

** Richland Library may change location and schedule of any library job.
