The Student Success Center is seeking an innovative, energetic and self-motivated leader to join an award-winning, high-impact, dynamic, student-centric team. The Student Success Center believes that the right person at the right time can change a life, and we are looking for a leader who can take initiative, aligns with this belief and is passionate about helping students achieve their goals and aspirations, utilizing a holistic coaching approach. Under administrative direction, the Coordinator primarily manages and supervises a large team of working learners (peer coaches), leads the center’s projects and activities, serves as liaison between the center and assigned student retention partners, and works on collaborative projects related to student engagement, retention, and success. This position is based on the Tempe campus with occasional travel to pan campuses such as West, Poly or Downtown.

The Coordinator also plays a critical role in the University College Work+ program, which is designed to prepare student-employees for their future professional careers. As a key participant in Work+, the Coordinator will serve as a career guide and mentor to the student peer success coaches they have been assigned to supervise. Additionally, the Coordinator will be involved in providing student peer success coaches opportunities to build valuable work skills as well as facilitating their professional development. Essential Duties:

Student / Working Learners Supervision (75%)

  • Supervises, leads, trains, coaches, and evaluates the performance of the assigned large student peer coaching workforce. All peer coaches, or working learners, are students at ASU themselves.

  • Coordinates delivery of the Student Success Center's LEAD peer coaching program, ensuring support for students who may need assistance and guidance with goal setting, strategies for success, financial planning, and engagement within the university to ensure a successful first year at ASU.

  • Conducts monthly 1:1 meetings with each of their assigned LEAD peer coaches to provide career guidance and mentorship, discuss professional development, review performance, and provide feedback.

  • Assist LEAD peer coaches with intentionally enhancing their skills in the following categories: workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, soft skills, and technical skills

  • Monitors work in progress and completion for each student peer coach and serves as a resource for the student coaches to facilitate success.

  • Monitors and prepares standardized and ad hoc reports relative to peer coach service measures and retention data.

  • Delivers training related to student success and coaching through meetings, workshops, and seminars to student-learners.

Project Planning, Management, and Assistance (10%)

  • Leads & assists with special projects and strategic planning as needed, which would include a jobs-to-be-done approach for service design and enhancement, along with engaging students in problem-solving as needed.

  • Assists, as needed, with the Student Success Center digital coaching community.

  • Assists, as needed, with actionable analytics work.

  • Assists, as needed, with marketing efforts and information to faculty, staff, and outside organizations regarding Student Success Center initiatives.

  • Schedules, facilitates, and/or monitors orientation and outreach events for new first-year students in collaboration with other ASU units and in accordance with specifications, objectives, and funding limitations of the department as determined by university leadership.

Flexible Projects and Tasks (15%)

  • Works independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment and thinks innovatively about best practices for student success, utilizing data and reporting tools to research, analyze, and propose student retention process improvements.

  • Works with department leadership, effectively advocates, leverages, and communicates to various constituents to remove barriers to student success.

  • Provides assistance to department leadership in identifying patterns and strategies for success in ASU student retention.

  • Maintains partnership link with assigned college(s) and staff in other units to facilitate Student Success Center objectives in support of ASU’s student retention goal.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in the supervision of the student workforce

  • Experience in advising, coaching, or student development within higher education

  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and completing work objectives

  • Experience in organizing, coordinating, and prioritizing work and activities for self and others

  • Experience in thriving and working in a fast-paced, high-volume, and dynamic work environment

  • Experience supporting college student populations

  • Experience in preparing and presenting programming/workshops for specialized populations such as international, multicultural, first-generation, commuter, and/or out-of-state students

  • Demonstrated knowledge of college student success and retention practices

  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to outreach, advocacy, and university resources that support college student retention and success

  • Experience using digital platforms to provide service to students

  • Proficient in the use of various

Working environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting, subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.

  • Frequent standing for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.

  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to the resolution of conflicts.
