Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in related field with at least 18 graduate hours in chemistry required. Ph.D. in Chemistry is preferred. Four years of experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Serves as instructor of record for Organic Chemistry laboratory and lecture courses. Core responsibilities include teaching pre-lab sessions, coordinating laboratory operations, managing student laboratory assistants, assigning grades, and developing course materials.
Primary Responsibilities
Teaches Organic Chemistry I and II laboratory sections, including direct instruction in prelab sessions; directs laboratory instruction for these courses. Instructs laboratory sessions on an as needed basis. Collaborates with faculty to develop a rigorous and engaging curriculum for this course sequence. Coordinates all aspects of laboratory operations, including managing laboratory assistants, assigning grades, and scheduling and supervising tutoring support. Serves as primary emergency support personnel for evening laboratory sections, including oversight of student laboratory assistants. Provides backup support for other lab courses, including Quantitative Analysis and Biochemistry I lab. Teaches two sections of chemistry lecture per academic year. Prepares program budget requests. Develops and oversees the preparation of training and operational manuals. Confers with staff to identify and resolve programmatic issues; implements solutions as appropriate. Recommends and develops program guidelines, procedures, policies, and regulations; interprets applicable policies and ensures compliance. Performs other related duties as assigned.
