Primary Purpose
Reporting directly to the Executive Director of the Student Learning Center, the Coordinator of Supplemental Instruction will coordinate the day to day administrative operations for SI tutoring within the Student Learning Center (SLC). Supplemental Instruction within the Student Learning Center provides content-specific academic support to approximately 2000 undergraduate students annually, including targeted services for students who face unique challenges.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated work requiring attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Experience providing tutorial, learning support, or coaching services to students.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to support the operation of services.
License/Certification Required
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree
- Experience with Supplemental Instruction or embedded tutoring
- Experience supervising student employees
- Direct familiarity with STEM related course content

Essential Duties and Responsibilities in each of these job categories include:
Job Category: SI Tutoring Operations
- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of SI tutoring in selected subject areas and; ensure the services run smoothly, meeting the needs of students in a timely and professional manner.
- Create and manage tutor schedules; ensure staffing is appropriate to meet student needs. Ensure that program schedules and changes are kept up-to-date on the website and in the tutor tracking system.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor the work schedule for tutors; maintain log of absences and schedule changes. Manage timesheets bi-weekly.
- Recruit, select, train, and evaluate qualified tutors. Oversee the onboarding process for new hires.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate student staff; provide ongoing guidance and support to ensure quality in SI sessions.
- Facilitate training and professional development for SI Leaders in line with best practices across the field.
- Meet regularly with SI Leaders to assist in the creation of instructional materials and lesson plans that incorporate various learning strategies.
- Promote the development of SI Leaders by conducting observations of sessions and meeting with leaders to discuss feedback.
- Ensure sessions are accurately recorded in the tracking system.
- Manage staff resources including equipment and technology.
- Reserve classroom space for sessions.
- Assist tutors with technology needs.
Compile tutoring resources.

- Collaborate closely with SLC colleagues to effectively balance general academic success initiatives alongside course-specific support and efficiently connect students (Boone/Hickory/Online) to campus resources when needed.
- Collaborate with community-designated programs in University College Student Success to ensure all students have access to services.
- Participate in outreach activities including classroom visits and university events that promote the SI program and the Student Learning Center.
- Represent the Student Learning Center (as needed) as a member of committees; participate actively in student-focused and community-oriented campus activities including outreach/public relations opportunities.
- Actively participate in Student Learning Center staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
