The Utah Department of Corrections Division of Reentry and Rehabilitation is seeking a Director of Substance Use and Behavioral Health to direct and coordinate a continuum of care that begins inside the prison and continues into the community. We are looking for a professional to lead our team of highly skilled therapeutic staff in developing and implementing effective therapeutic programs and providing services that allow individuals to be successful in the communities. The majority of the work will be overseeing programs at our Community Correctional Centers and Treatment Resource Centers across the state.

The Department of Corrections believes successful individual discharge begins at entry and is committed to the risk, needs and responsivity (RNR) model. The therapeutic concepts and methods utilized in the continuum of care are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The Program Administrator will be charged with ensuring programming is evidenced based, data driven and measurable.

Qualifications


The Ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field of study such as Social Work, Psychology or Counseling.
  • Five plus years of experience in the treatment of substance use and mental health disorders.
  • Professional license through the Division of Occupational, Professional and Licensing Division in Clinical Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology or other related fields.
  • Two years post licensure experience would be preferred.
  • Evidence of advanced trainings and expertise in Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders
  • Ability to supervise and mentor others.
  • Ability to network within the community to develop innovative and cost-effective programs and services that enhance individual success and public safety.

Example of Specific Key Duties:

  • Plans, develops, implements and maintains the day-to-day operations of Substance Use - Mental Health programs.
  • Supervises subordinate personnel including hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Monitors and manages program budgets.
  • Collaborates with other Department of Corrections divisions to support department mission and vision.
  • Develops, directs and implements policies and procedures.


Typical Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated program and supervisory experience of a mininum of three years.
  • Formal training and expertise in evidence-based treatments (e.g., CBT, ACT).
  • Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnoses/disorders.
  • Specialty training or certification in a clinical area of expertise (e.g. Exposure with response prevention).
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of community payer resources for BH treatment. (Medicaid, commercial, State and County).
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Critical decision making/problem-solving skills.
