Cost Accountant – Engineering Consultancy

Job Description Summary

We are looking for a skilled Cost Accountant to support project cost control and financial performance across our engineering consultancy projects. The role focuses on project budgeting, cost tracking, variance analysis, and financial reporting in coordination with Project Managers and senior management.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze project costs (manpower, overheads, consultants, reimbursables).
• Prepare project cost reports, budget vs. actual analysis, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
• Support budgeting and forecasting for ongoing and new engineering consultancy projects.
• Track and allocate direct and indirect costs in line with approved methodologies.
• Identify cost variances, investigate discrepancies, and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with month-end closing, journal entries, and reconciliations.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP / IFRS and internal financial controls.
• Support audits and management reporting as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Cost Accounting.
• 4+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in engineering consultancy, construction, or project-based firms.
• Strong knowledge of project costing, budgeting, and variance analysis.
• Proficiency in accounting software (Tally, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or ERP systems).
• Advanced MS Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, communication, and coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CMA / CPA or equivalent certification.
• Experience with consultancy contracts (lump sum, time-based, reimbursable).
• GCC experience and familiarity with project cost controls is an advantage.
