ABOUT THE POSITION
A Cost Accountant will collect data, allocate costs, and prepare reports on material purchases, labor, equipment, repairs, assembly and operating expenses to ensure established procedures are followed. Performs analysis and investigation to improve or revise cost system. Will complete cost analysis for new products or service so that Astec can maintain a competitive edge.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
- Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
- Coordinates product cost process including calculating, reviewing and analyzing machine and labor hours, overhead costs and allocations, production rates, raw material costs and manufacturing process changes.
- Initiate and monitor physical inventory and cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy, investigate variances, and resolve issues.
- Must review and analyze inventory reports, conduct research, and perform analytical studies in regards to cost analyses and profitability.
- Close jobs in a timely manner and work on special projects as required.
- Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports, verifying information.
- Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures, recommending changes.
- Answer’s accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
- Assist in audits and general ledger preparation.
- Actively support Astec’s core values, mission statement and vision statement.
- Assume other special activities and responsibilities as directed
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S) from an accredited University or College
- At least 2 years of accounting experience. An equivalent of relevant education and experience may be considered.
- Cost accounting experience, knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX, Lotus and Microsoft preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger transaction recording and reconciliation
- Detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple tasks at once
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software
