Cost Manager

Los Angeles, United States

About the Position

We're supporting one of the most ambitious and high-profile international events ever hosted in Los Angeles, a landmark celebration of sport, culture, and community that will unite the world's attention on Southern California. Our client's Venues and Infrastructure (VNI) team plays a critical role in transforming concepts into reality, delivering innovative, sustainable, and fully accessible temporary infrastructure across competition and non-competition venues citywide.

We're seeking a Cost Manager to join this fast-moving, high-visibility program. This is an opportunity to contribute to a once-in-a-generation project that combines the complexity of a global event with the engineering rigor of a major infrastructure program. The work spans coordination across multiple venues, design and build teams, and partner organizations, demanding precision, collaboration, and adaptability in equal measure.

The Cost Manager will oversee budgets and financial controls for a portfolio of venues. The role includes building venue budgets with Estimators, working with Procurement and Contracts to align tender documentation, and integrating with Venue Delivery and Finance teams to manage invoices, cash flow, and reporting. The Cost Manager will collaborate across project clusters to standardize processes, anticipate risks, and ensure consistency and accountability across all infrastructure delivery efforts.

This is a long-term, full-time, on-site position located in Los Angeles, CA, with occasional travel to venue sites during planning phase. The position will be venue-based during build phase.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and manage budgets across multiple venues in coordination with Venue Managers and Directors.
  • Forecast cash flows with Finance, organizing costs by agreed categories (commodities, partners, sports).
  • Review and reconcile invoices with Venue Delivery teams.
  • Prepare cash flows and reports in coordination with Finance.
  • Reconcile invoicing with contract terms and purchase orders.
  • Review financial change orders and manage program-level budget categories.

Attributes

  • Sharp analytical thinker who turns raw data into concise, persuasive narratives for executive audiences.
  • Detail-oriented guardian of fiscal discipline who sees the "big picture" of scope, schedule, and commercial risk.
  • Collaborative, low-ego communicator who is comfortable guiding multidiscipline teams.
  • Adaptable mindset suited to fast-moving, politically visible mega projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, finance, business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on cost management or project controls experience on heavy-civil infrastructure projects and/or sport and events delivery, which should include in depth knowledge of key construction project financial processes and risk.
  • Demonstrated success building and managing detailed budgets, change-order logs, and cost forecasts.
  • Advanced skills in meeting facilitation, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution.
  • Expert knowledge of reporting tools such as Excel, Tableau, or PowerBI.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in engineering, construction management, finance, or business.
  • Active professional certifications such as CCM (CMAA), MRICS/FRICS (RICS), PMP (PMI), or CCA (AACE).
  • Experience interfacing with industry standard scheduling systems, cost systems, and contract platforms to ensure alignment (e.g., Primavera's P6, Portfolio Planner, Cloud Schedule, Unifier, Aconex, and Kahua; PMWeb, Prism, e-Builder, etc.).
