The City of Reno offers a paid internship within the City Manager’s Office, supporting the Council & Executive Operations function. This internship provides students and emerging professionals a practical introduction to local government and the opportunity to contribute to high-visibility work that supports City Council operations, the City Manager’s executive office, neighborhood engagement, and Council-directed priorities.
Interns will gain hands-on experience in executive operations, governance support, public communication, and community engagement while building professional skills in research, writing, customer service, and problem-solving. Selected candidates may also enroll in a for-credit internship course through an accredited university or college. This internship aligns with University of Nevada guidelines, where interns may receive 1 academic credit for every 40 hours worked (typically 3 credits per semester for approximately 120 hours).
Interns generally work approximately 10- 15 hours per week. Evening and occasional weekend availability is required to support public meetings and community events. Neighborhood Advisory Board (NAB) meetings are typically held in the evenings on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Interns must be able to travel to offsite NAB meeting locations throughout the community.
