Description of Work

SALARY RANGE: $53,465.00 - $83,778.00

District Court 24, which consists of Guilford County, is seeking a qualified individual to perform a variety of case management functions for the Chief District Court Judge and to manage the office in the absence of the judge.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervise staff, including planning, directing, and reviewing work, performance management (including goal setting and evaluations), scheduling, approve time/leave, etc.
  • Develop case management procedures, track status of cases and prepare periodic reports, schedule cases and resolve scheduling conflicts, prepare and distribute calendars, and answer questions regarding status of cases.
  • Compose and prepare a variety of materials including correspondence, reports, and legal documents.
  • Assist with legal research.
  • Schedule appointments and meetings and maintain administrative records for the office.
  • Ensure office supplies and equipment are ordered, distributed, and maintained.
  • Screen callers and visitors, answer inquiries, secure and give information.
  • Screen and route mail according to contents of communication including email.
  • Copy, file, and retrieve materials and perform periodic follow-up activities.
  • May provide support services to other programs in the district such as mediation or jury management.
  • May serve on committees and attend meetings as assigned.
  • May assist with jury management operations.
  • May conduct courthouse tours.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Knowledge of: case management and calendaring rules and procedures to administer the case tracking and calendaring system; court system and organization to effectively interact with court officials, court procedures and legal terminology to communicate with court officials and law enforcement personnel; interpersonal skills to work with court personnel and the general public; organizational skills to monitor case activity and prepare court calendars; and principles of management related to the supervision of staff.

Skills in: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, WebEx, and Casewise; and strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to: use office automation equipment to prepare legal documents and maintain the case tracking system; summarize, compile, and tabulate narrative and numerical material, analyze and record information, and balance figures; learn specific laws, rules and regulations relating to the court system and programs; be resourceful in gathering information and in answering unusual inquires and questions; and compose correspondence independently following established guidelines.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in court administration, criminal justice, public administration, business, or a related field, and two years of progressive experience in the court system to acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work described; or a master's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
