POSITION SUMMARY

The Courts Appearance Bond Specialist takes care of all the Cash Bonds received from the jail, from the Creation to the Discharge. Responsible for the daily collection of unpaid Court Costs from the Cash Bonds and refunding the remaining balance back to the Depositors. Prepare remissions for Bondsmen, register Bondsmen to write Bonds in Miami-Dade County, and serves as a first approver of any prepared refund checks. Assists in answering any customer questions about Cash Bonds by phone or at one of the public windows. Research, prepare, and correct any Cash Bond payments from Corrections, as needed, and gives the payments to the front counter clerks for processing. Maintain all the unit statistics and reports them on a monthly basis.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accounting experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process cash bonds through the Central Bonds System (CBS).
  • Add, update, maintain, and correct cash bond and case records in CBS, the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS), and the Traffic Information System (TIS).
  • Prepare, review, and organize cash bonds and related documentation for imaging, scanning, filing, and records retention.
  • Perform initial review and approval of remitted checks in accordance with established procedures.
  • Process bond refunds and remissions after confirming applicable court costs have been satisfied.
  • Research bond transactions and case information across felony, misdemeanor, domestic violence, and traffic matters.
  • Register, deactivate, and reactivate licensed bondsmen in applicable systems.
  • Generate and review system reports, including CBS and iNovah reports, for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with the Finance Department regarding bond research, reconciliations, and audits, as requested.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries related to bond and case information.
  • Provide operational support to Court Records Specialist II staff as needed.
  • Prepare and manage records for transfer to the Records Center or for authorized destruction in accordance with records retention schedules.
  • Maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with staff and stakeholders.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must be knowledgeable in the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS), the Traffic Information System (TIS), the Central Bonds System (CBS), the Central Bonds System Scanning Program (CBS Scanning), iNovah Cashiering System, OnDemand Report System, the Criminal Filing Application, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Needs to be skilled in researching cases (Felony, Misdemeanor, Domestic Violence, and Traffic), enter and maintain the Cash Bonds in CBS, CJIS, and TIS, and able to communicate efficiently with the Finance Department and the Florida Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on all Cash Bond matters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is primarily performed in office environment, with extended periods at a computer. May involve light lifting (up to 10 lbs).
