COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFEOur Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.The work unit exists to determine, decide, develop and coordinate internal and external communications aligned with CPW’s mission to perpetuate the wildlife natural resources of the state, provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado’s natural resources. The Branding and Communications Section exists to lead the planning, development, creation, implementationand evaluation of creative methods and communications techniques to efficiently communicate CPW programs, products and activities to local, regional and national publics based upon CPW leadership goals. The work unit is responsible for communicating with the public using the agency website, press releases, social media, regulation brochure publications, mass marketing efforts, video, and Colorado Outdoors Magazine and blog. The work unit is also responsible for pricing, production and distribution of these materials. The work unit is also responsible for overseeing the CPW retail operations, including the online store.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
This position serves as a member of the CPW web team, aiding the Branding and Communications Section and CPW Staff SMEs with problem-solving to best respond to agency needs. This position will serve as a web content architect, organizing digital content for reuse and user experience, and functioning as a "blueprint" creator for CMS structure, metadata, and taxonomy. They align content models with technical systems to ensure efficient, searchable, and consistent, on-brand messaging. The position will have a focus on monitoring and implementing emerging technologies on the CPW site. They will liaise with CPW’s Business Tech team to ensure applications are developed with and integrated into the CPW website for optimal user experience. Under the direction of the Section Manager and the Communications Supervisor, this person will assist the web team in explaining and implementing a strategic vision and operational plan for agency needs. As a technical expert in web content management and design, this person will leverage semantic content development to maximize search engine optimization, and they will play a critical role in helping CPW achieve large-scale outreach and awareness goals for the site.This position will work with the Communications Supervisor and staff to understand and analyze communication needs for other sections and branches of the agency, and find/develop solutions within the framework of the agency website standards, designs, and in support of agency mission and section/branch goalsCPW Website Content management and strategic execution: Coordinates with CPW web team’s Content Strategist and Communications Supervisor, staff SMEs, Branding and Communicationsteammates, Executive Management Team and other relevant parties to plan, update and maintain website content.Research and manage implementations of emerging technologies: Subject matter expert on translating the need and process for including new technologies into the Drupal site from staff or
vendor.Work with web team, CPW Business Tech team and vendor(s) to understand implementation concerns and maintain expert workingknowledge of these tools and their integration with the CPW
website.Review and update scientific content into accessible, plain language standards: Colorado Parks and Wildlife content is frequently scientific or technical in nature and employee must be able to interpret complex concepts into web-based material that is understandable by a general audience. At the same time, the interpretation must be accurate and acceptable to the providing scientific or technical authority. Web material is time-sensitive. Review, refine, revise and update current web material on a regular and timely basis. Evaluate content performance and leverage best practices in accessibility (WCAG), search engine optimizations, and include semantic content creation that is comprehensive, contextually relevant, and addresses user intent and topic depth.Other duties as assigned.Attend team meetings as scheduled. Be a partner/liaison to Section’s project manager for web projects and prioritization. Cover for teammates during leave, illness, etc. on all areas of the website. Design/give presentations on certain areas of the website or overall website strategy for other staff clients.
