Provides responsible supervision of assigned personnel, activities and facilities associated with certain operations of solid waste management facilities associated with the solid waste disposal programs for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities Commission. This position reports to a senior crew coordinator or a Solid Waste Supervisor.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or higher, supplemented by training and experience in solid waste disposal and safety management.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Must have a minimum 3 years heavy equipment operation experience, prefer some experience in handling municipal solid waste; supervisory experience preferred but not necessary.

Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to solid waste preferred.

Possession of a SWANA Landfill Operations Specialist certification is preferred, but not necessary.

Must communicate effectively, courteously and with authority, both orally and written with in-house personnel, consultants, and the public.

Should have a working knowledge of computers, including word processing and basic spreadsheet capabilities, as needed to manage solid waste duties, write reports, maintain operating records.

Must be able to read and interpret written reports, regulations, permits and other correspondence.
