 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs various duties in cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing and maintenance of various City facilities and offices using Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and standards for the prevention, containment, and elimination of pathogens, viruses, and other potentially infectious materials. Maintains equipment and supplies in good working condition; observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
Performs custodial activities within assigned areas; sweeps, scrubs, mops, strips, refinishes, and polishes floors; vacuums rugs, carpets, stairwells, and all hard surface floors in offices and common areas; spot clean carpets, extracts carpets, and carpet restoration cleaning.
Operates custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, ride-on and walk behind automatic scrubbers, and other equipment as assigned.
Performs custodial activities within assigned areas including cleaning and disinfecting restroom facilities and fountains with approved cleaning chemicals, including sinks, toilets, and urinals; fills dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper, and other items; cleans counter tops, mirrors, tile, walls, and windows; unclogs drains and toilets.
Perform various duties in cleaning gymnasiums, exercise equipment, lounges, offices, locker rooms, showers, hallways, kitchens and other facilities as assigned; dusts furniture and woodwork, empties waste and recycle receptacles, spot mops spills, removes debris and graffiti.
Performs duties such as picking up paper, leaves, wastes and other debris from grounds, walkways, and areas adjacent facilities; sweeps concrete surfaces adjacent to buildings, wash down sidewalks, building entrances, windows and stairwells.
Operates equipment such as leaf blower, leaf vacuum, brushes and trash grabbers and other equipment as assigned. Participate in seasonal work such as ice and snow removal.
Moves and arranges furniture and equipment; prepares conference rooms and other facilities for special events or meetings as assigned; sets up and assembles chairs, tables, and other furniture and equipment; cleans up furniture, equipment, and debris following events.
Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate personnel; reports need for maintenance and repairs to appropriate authority. Locks and unlocks doors, gates, and windows as appropriate; turns lights on and off as needed; maintains security of assigned areas according to established guidelines; sets alarms as appropriate. Maintains records of maintenance and cleaning activities; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
May be required to use, carry and answer their cell phone as determined by their job duties and the department head.
May drive a vehicle when required.
Must meet regular attendance and dress code requirements.
Must be able to maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, co-workers, managers and citizens.
Must accomplish the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in a timely manner.
May be assigned or reassigned to any division within the department. Performs other duties as assigned.
This position may be deemed essential during inclement weather situations, and must report to or remain at work, even when administrative closings are announced, as determined by the DepartmentHead.
 DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES (if any):
Operates and performs minor repairs of a variety of machinery, equipment and tools associated with custodial tasks, which may include vacuums, carpet cleaning machines, floor buffers, manual and electric sprayers, blowers, leaf vacuums and pressure washers.
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes, and the routine operation of power tools and/or small maintenance equipment/machines or any combination of equivalent experience and education.
High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
 LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid driver's license may be required depending on assignment.
 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of buildings maintenance principles and practices; applicable equipment, materials and tools used in building maintenance activities and safe work practices.
Skill in following oral and written instructions; performing routine maintenance tasks; operating and maintaining applicable building maintenance equipment and tools and communication and
interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, and the general public,
sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching,
crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling,
talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
 WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force
frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes,
odors, dusts, gasses, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
