Criminal Defense Associate

Two busy criminal defense attorneys are looking to hire an associate attorney to assist both attorneys with all aspects of criminal defense practice. Both attorneys handle the defense of serious criminal cases in state and federal court in PA and NJ. This includes representation at trial, for sentencing, on appeal, and in post-conviction proceedings such as PCRA petitions and federal habeas litigation. We are located in a top office building in Center City in an office suite with other defense attorneys and support staff.

The associate will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of criminal defense practice. Responsibilities will include:

• Legal research and writing for motions, briefs, appeals, and PCRA petitions
• Court appearances (status hearings, preliminary hearings, motions to suppress, judge and jury trials, appellate argument)
• Client intake and communication
• Prison visits (video and in person)
• Communicating with court staff, judicial chambers, and prosecutors

The position will involve assisting the attorneys with court appearances and other support in their own cases and will also allow the associate to bring in their own private cases depending on experience and availability. Experience in the criminal justice system as a law clerk, public defender or prosecutor is a significant plus. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to be in court regularly, gain trial and appellate experience, and start to build their own private practice in criminal defense.

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience but is in the range of 80,000 - 100,000. Stipend for health insurance and 401k match may be included. Two weeks paid vacation. Sick days as needed. There is also the opportunity to make significantly more than the base salary through bringing in your own cases and bonuses.
