The St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is seeking qualified and motivated law enforcement professionals who desire to continue their careers within the justice system. St. Francois County is the largest county in the 24th Judicial Circuit—rural, yet consistently busy. We regularly collaborate with more than a dozen law enforcement agencies of various sizes.

Because of this high volume and diversity of cases, our office relies on strong coordination with police agencies to assemble the most complete and effective criminal cases possible. The Investigator serves as the essential liaison between prosecutors and law enforcement, ensuring thorough case preparation and efficient case flow.

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended as general examples of the duties of this position and are not all-inclusive for specific positions. Other reasonable duties may be assigned.

  • Serve as primary liaison between the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and St. Francois County law enforcement agencies.
  • Review incoming referrals and reports from law enforcement to:
  • Identify appropriate criminal charges.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Determine potential follow-up needed for filing decisions.
  • Coordinate additional investigative work with law enforcement.
  • Obtain investigative subpoenas for relevant records.
  • Make preliminary assessments on case suitability for prosecution.
  • Assist law enforcement with investigations across a broad range of criminal cases.
  • Coordinate follow-up investigations, evidence requests, and other case-specific needs.
  • Obtain criminal history checks in MULES for defendants.
  • Request and obtain 911 calls, CAD reports, or related communications records.
  • Locate, contact, and/or serve subpoenas on witnesses and victims.
  • Draft, serve, and execute search warrants.
  • Testify in court proceedings as needed.
  • Transport witnesses and victims to hearings or trials.
  • Prepare memos, reports, and written narratives for case files.
  • Assist prosecutors with urgent trial needs, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and attending trials.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system, investigative procedures, and legal processes.
  • Valid driver’s license with no more than two traffic citations within the past three years.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as required.
  • Criminal Inquiry level MULES certification required (training will be provided if not currently certified).

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to perform tasks that may require bending, reaching, or kneeling.
  • Occasional exposure to uncomfortable or potentially hazardous environments.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.06 - $21.05 per hour
