EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Have completed at least two years from an accredited college or university; with course work in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a related area.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
WHEN ASSIGNED TO MEDICAL EXAMINER OR CHILDREN’S VILLAGE
Must submit to immunizations as required by the Department of Health & Human Services and submit to a tuberculin skin test or chest x‑ray, at County expense.
Before beginning employment, candidates will be required to provide Children’s Village with documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services (previously called Family Independence Agency) that they have not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect. In addition, applicants being considered for hire will be asked to sign a form authorizing Children’s Village to request and receive a criminal history check in accordance with the privacy act of 1974.
Applicants for positions at Children’s Village will not be considered if they have been convicted of either of the following:
Child Abuse or Neglect. A felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Answers telephone calls and provides information to the general public and related professionals or agencies. As needed, directs questions or problems to the proper party.
Prepares client file and ensures that proper documentation is filed. As needed faxes requested documentation to the court or appropriate agencies.
Maintains a variety of legal/medical records.
Utilizes a variety of office equipment such as computers, faxes, calculators and copying machines.
Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
WHEN ASSIGNED TO MEDICAL EXAMINER
Answers telephone calls and provides information to the general public and related professionals or agencies. Directs questions or problems to the proper party.
Releases bodies to funeral home and other agencies as directed by Supervisor.
Assists Toxicology Laboratory staff with specimen accessions, specimen screening, quality assurance and disposition of specimens for additional testing.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Documents and records findings of interviews with the clients and pertinent phone calls.
Gathers and researches information to assess or ensure compliance with program requirements.
WHEN ASSIGNED TO MEDICAL EXAMINER
May be present during an autopsy.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to communicate, and to examine specimens.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a typical office environment.
When assigned to the Medical Examiner may be exposed to environmental elements.
