CSGS - Security and Strategic Studies - Full Professor - Full Time Faculty - Fall Semester

The American University in the Emirates (AUE) invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Full Professor in Security and Strategic Studies.

Academic Semester: Fall 2026–2027

Specializations

The successful candidate will teach one or more of the following areas:

• International Relations
• International Security
• Political Science

Instruction Language: English

Teaching Load: 24 credit hours per academic year

Job Purpose

The faculty member is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, assessing student performance, providing academic advising, engaging in scholarly research, participating in administrative and committee work, and contributing to professional and community service in alignment with the mission of the University.

Qualifications & Education

• Ph.D. in Security Studies or a closely related discipline from a US, UK, Canada, New Zealand–accredited university, or an institution recognized by an American accreditation body
• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant industry or field experience in security, intelligence, defense, or strategic studies
• Strong record of peer-reviewed publications in Scopus-indexed journals
• Demonstrated experience supervising Master’s and Ph.D. theses
• Prior experience teaching at the Ph.D. level

Experience

• Minimum of two (2) years of teaching and/or professional experience at an internationally accredited university
• Proven excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels
• Previous higher education or teaching experience in an accredited university in the United States of America is required

• Curriculum development and academic program review
• Record of professional and scholarly achievement, including peer-reviewed publications
• Active and ongoing research agenda with interest in interdisciplinary and faculty collaboration
• Ability to integrate web-based and digital technologies into teaching
• Willingness to contribute to University, college, and community service
• Excellent English proficiency and communication skills

• Deliver research-informed and practice-driven instruction
• Apply contemporary pedagogical approaches that promote critical inquiry, engagement, and mastery of competencies
• Design and implement effective learning activities and assessments

2. Instructional Management

• Effectively manage all instructional processes in accordance with university policies and academic standards

3. Assessment and Evaluation

• Evaluate and grade student performance objectively and transparently
• Develop clear assessment criteria aligned with course learning outcomes
• Set clear expectations and ensure fairness while avoiding cognitive bias

4. Curriculum Development and Review

Contribute to continuous curriculum review and enhancement to ensure:

A. Quality

• Currency and relevance of theory and practice
• Appropriate intellectual rigor aligned with degree level

B. Effectiveness

• Progressive complexity in theoretical and practical content
• Advanced levels of analysis and competency development
• Application of theories and principles to real-world contexts

5. Research and Scholarship

• Actively engage in scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed journals
• Contribute to increased citation impact and alignment with the University’s research mission

6. Professional Development

• Participate in ongoing professional growth through workshops, seminars, training programs, and leadership development activities

7. Academic Advising and Student Success

• Provide academic advising related to program learning outcomes, curriculum planning, and career development

8. Advancement and Fundraising

• Identify and secure external funding to support the University’s mission
• Support advancement initiatives and cultivate relationships with stakeholders

9. Service

• Participate in university, college, and discipline-related service, including accreditation, recruitment, research administration, consultation, and community engagement
