DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Join the Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) team at UC San Diego, a dynamic and innovative campus department dedicated to delivering exceptional service to the university community. POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, performs unskilled building maintenance tasks on a regular and continuing basis or, under close supervision. May work independently, as part of a regular maintenance crew, or as an assistant to a skilled tradesman. Duties include but are not limited to: installing fire extinguishers and blackboards; cleaning roofs and patio drains, piping, clearing stoppages in sinks and toilets; doing preparatory work for painting projects including washing walls, filling in or smoothing surfaces, masking areas and setting up scaffolding; painting markings on asphalt, concrete floors and similar surfaces; replacing door closers, locks, latches, hinges and other building hardware; making minor repairs to office furniture and equipment; making repairs to fences and gates; operating and maintaining a variety of power and hand tools of the various trades. May drive a truck or other light vehicle in the course of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and ability to use hand tools and utilize equipment common to the building maintenance trade.

  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and make necessary adjustments or repairs.

  • Knowledge and ability to use handheld devices.

  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations; and demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of people.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team or alone.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to safeguard keys issued for assigned areas.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities.

  • Knowledge and ability to work in a safe manner according to local, federal, state, and university requirements.

  • Demonstrated skill in setting priorities in a changing work environment and assuring these priorities are met.

  • Ability to request supplies, maintain inventory, and control stock for assigned areas.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Will be required to work alternate work hours and shifts.

  • May be required to work overtime by supervisor with little or no advanced notice.

  • Background check required.

  • Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

  • Able to carry up to 50 pounds for long distances.

Mandated Reporter: This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $46,625 - $59,195 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $22.33 - $28.35

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
