Custodial Worker 1

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Library Director, Assistant Directors, or Building Heads, the Custodian performs moderately heavy manual work to maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of Library buildings. This position will include evenings, Saturdays, and periodic shifts between all buildings. (15-17 hours per week)

Responsibilities:

• Perform a variety of housekeeping tasks and occasional minor maintenance during assigned shifts.
• Inspect and maintain bathrooms, paper goods, garbage pails, and room setups as needed.
• Mop, wax, polish, and strip floors.
• Vacuum carpets.
• Dust and polish furniture, bookcases, paneling, and light fixtures.
• Wash windows, walls, and woodwork as needed.
• Participate in special projects, including thorough cleaning, moving furniture, and minor repairs.
• Perform painting as necessary.
• Conduct seasonal outdoor maintenance, such as snow shoveling and grounds cleanup.
• Carry out related duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Physical condition must be commensurate with the demands of the position.
• Some assignments may require skills that can be learned on the job.
• Ability to complete routine and repetitive tasks efficiently.
