This is full time routine work in cleaning, performing minor repairs, painting, lifting and using related power and hand tools and equipment, and performing other assigned tasks in and around Water Resources facilities. Work is scheduled during the day but may involve occasional weekends based on department needs. Due to the critical responsibilities of this classification, an employee in this class must be able to report to work outside of normally scheduled work hours to respond to emergency conditions and/or address urgent needs, at the discretion of management.

Salary: $17.13 - $22.78 Hourly

Minimum Qualifications.
Applicants must:

  • Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Have verifiable employment of at least six months performing janitorial, custodial, or closely related activities in a commercial environment.
  • Be able to plan and organize routine work details which may include coordinating tasks performed by other semi-skilled staff as assigned.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Be able to report to work outside of normally scheduled work hours to respond to emergency conditions and/or address urgent needs, at the discretion of management.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have considerable progressive experience in janitorial or related custodial work.
  • Have considerable knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures.
  • Are able to instruct and train employees in cleaning and related activities.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment, or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.
