Position Summary Information

General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent, Physical Plant, the Custodian is responsible for cleanliness, sanitation, and orderliness both inside and outside of areas assigned, and for the removal of waste collected. Regular work for this part-time position is approximately 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday working a 4 to 5 hour shift. This is a part-time regular position.

This position may be assigned to either the main Lincoln Campus at 8800 O Street or the Continuing Education Center at 301 S 68th Street Place.

Essential Functions
Clean All Aspects of Assigned Area
Clean and disinfect sinks, toilets and trash receptacles, and mop restroom floors. Clean and fill toilet paper and paper towel dispensers. Clean mirrors, hand rails, floors, glass doors, windows, window ledges, file cabinets, blinds, shelves, tables, chairs, dry erase boards, ceilings, diffusers, and air ducts. Vacuum, empty trash cans and replace liners.

Secure Area
Assure all doors are locked and lights turned off before leaving the area.

Assist with Room Set-Ups
Transport tables and chairs for classroom/area set-ups and return to storage after event. Install floor coverings in gym. Pull out bleachers, set up stage, podium and sporting equipment.

Safety and Security
Understand the dangers and safety precautions in use of chemicals. Display “wet floor” signs when appropriate and remove when floors are dry.

Marginal Functions
  • Restock cleaning carts and area janitor closets
  • Spray for insects
  • Water plants
  • Assist with snow removal
  • Monitor inside building security for theft
  • Make sure building is cleared and no one re-enters in case of fire

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of custodial supplies, materials and equipment. Skill and ability to use this knowledge.
  • Ability to move approximately 100 pounds a short distance with assistance.
  • Ability to move 50 pounds up to 30 feet.
  • Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of students, staff and public.
  • Ability to work as a productive member of a maintenance team using the established practices, procedures and policies of the college and directives of supervisor.
  • Complete two hours of diversity education yearly.
  • The individual must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School graduate or GED.
  • One (1) year successful experience in the custodial area.
  • Able to work with cleaning chemicals.

Desired Qualifications
  • Past employment references are indicative of successful performance in the Custodial area.

Salary
$15.32 per hour

Part-time regular employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account, with no match provided by the College. Additionally, part-time regular employees may enroll in supplemental benefits and the group vision plan through employee-paid premiums.

Schedule
Normal hours of work for this part-time regular position are scheduled by the College generally between 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday working 4 – 5 hour shifts. This is based on a 29-hour workweek and on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
