Under general supervision, the Custodian Specialist is responsible for cleaning services that provide a clean, safe, attractive, and healthy place for our patrons and staff. Typical duties include facility cleaning, set-up of meeting rooms and library equipment and inventory control of cleaning supplies. This role will primarily be focused on carpet cleaning and providing back-up to other Custodian Specialists. The incumbent can expect to be assigned work at any of the KRL branches. This position reports to the Facilities Supervisor. The typical custodial shift is from 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM.
This posting may be used to fill up to two openings.
This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Washington Public Employees Association/UFCW local 365.
High School diploma or GED, plus two years of custodial experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the requirements of the job.
This position travels between locations throughout the county and will need to drive on library business.
A valid Washington state driver's license, safe driving record, and three years of driving experience is required to drive a library-owned vehicle for library business.
Employees regularly scheduled 20 or more hours per week are eligible to participate in our medical, dental, vision, basic life, AD&D, long term disability insurance plans, health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), as well as our employee assistance program. Additionally, full-time employees earn 15 days of vacation leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 1 personal day each year.
Kitsap Regional Library participates in the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Employees are automatically eligible for the plan if they work a minimum of 16.25 hours per week (or 70 hour per month) during five months per year for two consecutive years.
Offers to new employees are expected to be between $20.45 and $21.70 depending on required and relevant experience and in alignment with internal equity.

Work is carried out in a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment with periodic staff interaction. This position primarily involves light to medium physical demands. Work involves frequent movement, lifting, carrying, and maneuvering over extended periods of time; operating vacuums, brooms, mops, carpet cleaning or other powered equipment; and prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, and/or kneeling; occasional telephones and other office equipment; noise from other equipment, vehicles, etc. Periodic exposure to dust, dirt and noise while work is conducted. Must be able to work while others are working in a shared team area.
Occasionally, the incumbent must move or maneuver objects or materials weighing up to 50 pounds, including stooping, reaching, lifting, bending or transferring materials and other equipment to carts, tables, or shelves of varying heights. Frequently, the incumbent must move or maneuver objects or materials weighing up to 30 pounds, including stooping, reaching, lifting, bending or transferring materials and supplies. Incumbents must move between locations within the library and to/from other locations.
Visual acuity essential for tasks include identifying, observing and evaluating the safety and cleanliness of workspaces and surrounding areas. Work performed and delivered is guided by precise deadlines. High cognitive demands include attention to detail, prioritizing and following clear procedures.
Good communication skills, customer service abilities, and multitasking are also essential for success in this role.
This position regularly visits library locations throughout the county and will need to drive on library business.

This is a full-time, non-exempt 40 hour per week position. Schedules are subject to change to meet the needs of the library. The typical custodial shift is from 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM.
