CW - VP of Engineering and Technology Western Hemisphere

JOB SUMMARY: The Vice President of Engineering & Technology leads and manages engineering and technology initiatives across multiple functions, teams, and job families for the Western Hemisphere. This role oversees cross-functional planning and execution, ensures products meet customer, product rationalization, safety, and environmental requirements, and drives strategic technical objectives in alignment with organizational goals.

LOCATION: Houston, TX (preferred) or other Western Hemisphere hubs; travel across North America; Interaction and travel to the Eastern Hemisphere may be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, ROLES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.

Strategic and Regional Leadership

  • Set the regional engineering and technology strategy for surface pressure control product lines in alignment with global roadmaps and business objectives.
  • Own the Western Hemisphere engineering portfolio, staffing, and budget; prioritize investments across NPI, sustaining, cost-out, reliability, and digital initiatives.
  • Lead multi-site teams across the US; strengthen standard work, governance, and metrics; assists the Eastern Hemisphere when requested.

Product Engineering and Lifecycle

  • Deliver new products through a robust stage-gate process; ensure design-for-safety, design-for-manufacturability, and design-to-cost.
  • Oversee sustaining engineering, product care, and cost reduction while maintaining performance and compliance.
  • Ensure rigorous design assurance: FEAs, design reviews, tolerance analysis, verification/validation, qualification (e.g., PR2), and change control/MOC.

Quality, Safety, and Compliance

  • Comply with all safety, health, environmental, and quality Management System requirements, policies, and procedures relevant to the position.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations, including API, ASME, NACE, ISO, and regional regulatory requirements where applicable.
  • Champion product safety, reliability, and environmental stewardship; lead risk assessments (HAZID, HAZOP, LPOA), warranty reduction, and continuous improvement.Rev.C
  • Maintain strong QMS discipline (API Q1/ISO 9001) and HSE leadership across labs, test facilities, and manufacturing interfaces.

Customer and Field Support

  • Serve as the senior technical authority for customer engagements, tenders, and major projects; translate Voice of Customer into clear product requirements.
  • Partner with Service/Operations to improve field reliability and lifecycle cost; lead critical issue response and complex failure investigations.

Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Test

  • Collaborate with plant operations and supply chain on process capability, special processes (e.g.,welding, cladding, NDE), and supplier qualification.
  • Ensure robust qualification and acceptance testing (hydrostatic, PSL compliance, PR2/PR levels), lab safety, and equipment readiness.

Technology and Digital Enablement

  • Guide materials, sealing, and controls innovation relevant to surface pressure control applications (wellhead, frac/flowback, manifolds, valves, chokes, BOP-related surface equipment).
  • Advance digitalization initiatives, including sensors, condition monitoring, reliability analytics, and product data management.

People Leadership

  • Build, coach, and retain a high-performing, diverse engineering organization; develop successors and technical leaders.
  • Lead through influence in a matrix; model business acumen, technical rigor, and high integrity.

Program and Financial Management

  • Set objectives for assigned teams, manage project schedules, and ensure costs and schedules are met.
  • Own regional engineering financials (budgeting, OPEX/CAPEX); ensure on-time, on-budget program delivery.
  • Define and manage KPIs including NPI on-time delivery, COPQ, warranty/MTBF, cost-out savings, ECO cycle time, test throughput, and safety metrics.

Engineering Governance and Documentation

  • Interpret customer requirements and apply industry and company standards to provide product designs and documentation.
  • Continually evaluate existing products and develop new products to meet changing market and company requirements.
  • Develop or review designs, drawings, and specifications for existing and new products; ensure assignments meet standards and performance requirements.Rev.C
  • Ensure quality control of designs, drawings, and technical documents for compliance with API and applicable industry and company standards.
  • Consult with other departments on equipment designs and technical questions.
  • Assist and respond to NCRs, SDRs, and ECNs; drive timely closure and effectiveness.
  • Write or delegate departmental process procedures and policies as required; promote and assist continuous improvement of products and services.
  • Provide reports to senior management on team/project progress, quality, new initiatives, and business strategy.

Reliability and Field Issue Resolution

  • Anticipate potential problems and proactively solve complex technical challenges using creative thinking and internal/external resources.
  • Lead or assist investigations of field failures using defined processes; evaluate root cause; recommend corrective actions and verify effectiveness.

Commercial Enablement and Market Insight

  • Train sales and service personnel on technical matters, compliance to industry standards, and Cactus Wellhead equipment features and use.
  • Review industry literature; stay abreast of market trends and technology; identify and recommend opportunities for business development

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, Materials, Manufacturing, or related Engineering field.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Engineering or MBA.
  • Typical senior-level profile: 15+ years of engineering experience in upstream oil and gas equipment, with deep exposure to surface pressure control products; 7+ years leading multi-site, cross-functional engineering teams with a track record delivering NPIs and complex sustaining programs.
  • Equivalencies that may be considered based on demonstrated accomplishments: Bachelor’s degree and eight years of related experience; or twelve years of related experience and/or training without a degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • API standards training/certifications desirable.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Expert knowledge of relevant standards and codes: API, ASME, NACE MR0175/ISO and regional regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong grounding in FEA/CFD, tolerance and reliability engineering, materials/metallurgy, welding/NDE, and elastomer/sealing systems.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills; effective in a matrix and across cultures; decisive technical judgment.
  • Business acumen, including cost modeling, make/buy, and supplier development; IP awareness and technology scouting.
