Summary of Position

The D365 F&O Finance Application Specialist provides expert-level application support, administration, and end-user training within the Microsoft Dynamics 365 environment. This role bridges the gap between technical system health and deep functional accounting/distribution processes, leveraging AI-powered tools and automation to accelerate resolution and drive efficiency. The specialist serves as the primary lead for resolving complex incidents that disrupt business-critical operations, ensuring system stability, data integrity, and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions

Finance Application Support

• Expert Troubleshooting: Resolve application errors, posting failures, and period-close issues across GL, AR, AP, Bank Rec, Tax, and SCM modules.
• End-User Empowerment: Lead training initiatives and provide best-practice guidance to drive system adoption.
• Accounting Integrity: Investigate data discrepancies in financial transactions, subledger-to-GL reconciliations, and intercompany accounting.
• Tax & E-Invoicing: Understanding of regional tax setup, configuration, and ongoing maintenance within D365 F&O. Support e-invoicing requirements and integrations across applicable jurisdictions.
• SCM & Inventory: Support the financial element of transactions and inventory movements, including the integration of Advanced Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) with finance.
• AI-Driven Efficiency: Leverage AI assistants and automation tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, AI agents, intelligent workflows) to streamline troubleshooting, accelerate root-cause analysis, and enhance productivity across finance operations.

System Administration & Implementation

• Legal Entity Management: Lead the creation and configuration of new legal entities from scratch, including chart of accounts, posting profiles, and financial dimensions. Acts as an expert advisor, exercising independent judgment to develop, recommend, and implement critical operational strategies.
• Security & Compliance: Manage user access, security roles, and duty assignments to ensure strict segregation of duties.
• Environment Lifecycle: Manage service updates and environment refreshes (Production to UAT/QA) using LifeCycle Services (LCS).
• Data Migration: Utilize the Data Management Framework (DMF) to migrate legal entities and financial data from legacy ERP systems.
• AI Enablement: Configure and champion Claude, Microsoft Copilot and other AI tools and capabilities within D365 F&O, including prompt engineering for finance workflows, AI-assisted journal entries, and intelligent process automation.

Technical Reporting & Ecosystem

• Financial Intelligence: Design and modify complex reports using D365 Financial Reporter, AI tools, Power BI, SSRS.
• Modern Integration: Support and maintain data synchronization between D365, Microsoft Fabric, and the Power Platform.
• ERP Integrations: Understanding of finance-related ERP integrations, including interfaces with banks, expense management tools (e.g., Concur), payroll systems (e.g., ADP), and other third-party finance platforms.
• SQL Analysis: Query and analyze data from SQL Server to support audits and troubleshooting.
• Design, develop, configure, and test D365 finance system changes prior to deployment, ensuring compatibility with existing implementation elements

Preferred "Big Bonus" Skills

• Implementation: Proven track record of setting up new legal entities from the ground up.
• Migration: Advanced expertise in DMF for large-scale data imports.
• WMS: Functional experience with Advanced Warehouse Management Systems.
• Back-end Mastery: Deep understanding of LCS, UAT refreshes, and D365-to-Fabric synchronization.
• AI Adoption: Hands-on experience with Claude, Microsoft Copilot, or other AI agentic tools, AI agents, or intelligent automation platforms to optimize ERP workflows and finance operations.

Collaboration & Documentation

• Facilitate communication between technical teams and finance stakeholders, conducting requirement-gathering sessions for enhancements and issue resolution
• Facilitate building functional design documents and guide developers through implementation of finance-related customizations and enhancements
• Create and maintain technical and functional documentation including knowledge base articles, system configuration standards, and end-user guides
• Provide training and best practices guidance to finance end users to drive successful system adoption and utilization
• Lead system testing initiatives for finance-related changes, including UAT coordination, validation of financial posting logic, and production deployment planning
• Stay current with D365 F&O finance module updates, Microsoft Azure cloud services, AI and automation advancements, and industry standards to provide strategic recommendations for system enhancements

Work Environment

This position is based on a professional office setting and regularly utilizes workplace technology, including computers, smartphones, multifunction printers, cloud-based filing systems, and collaboration tools.

Physical Demands

This role requires physical capabilities that support the successful execution of key responsibilities. The employee regularly engages in verbal and written communication with colleagues and clients to address project-related inquiries and must be able to convey accurate information clearly and efficiently. The position involves remaining seated at a workstation for approximately 75% of the time, with occasional movement throughout the office to access equipment, supplies, and shared resources. Daily tasks include consistent use of computers and standard office technology such as keyboards, printers, and multifunction devices. The role also involves transporting equipment boxes weighing up to 25 pounds within the building and to other offsite locations as needed for project support.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in D365 F&O Finance & SCM functional support.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Core Knowledge: Advanced understanding of financial accounting principles (period-end close, reporting standards) and distribution/logistics workflows.
• AI Literacy: Comfort and willingness to adopt AI-powered tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, AI agents, intelligent automation) to enhance daily workflows and drive continuous improvement.
• Independent Driver: Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and maintain an "unflappable" temperament during production issues.
