Data Analyst

JOB SUMMARY

The Data Analyst will support 501(C)PA’s nonprofit clients by collecting, cleaning, transforming, and analyzing financial and operational data to produce accurate, timely, and actionable insights. This role ensures high‑quality data integrity across multiple systems and works collaboratively with internal teams to support financial reporting, grant compliance, budgeting, and organizational decision‑making. The Data Analyst will be assigned to clients with complex data needs and will contribute to the client’s growth and success through strong analytical skills, clear communication, and excellent customer service.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collect, clean, validate, and transform financial, operational, and grant‑related datasets from multiple systems.
  • Prepare and communicate accurate, high‑quality analytical reports, dashboards, and visualizations to nonprofit leadership on a timely basis.
  • Build and maintain data models, reporting pipelines, and automated workflows to support month‑end close, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Reconcile data across systems (banking, accounting, payroll, grants, etc.) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist clients with the development of KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Support grant management and federal grant reporting through accurate data extraction and analysis.
  • Provide data and documentation for client audits, including reconciliations, internal reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Collaborate with accounting, payroll, and systems teams to improve data workflows and ensure consistent data structures across clients.
  • Maintain excellent communication and relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Participate in continuing professional education.
  • Assist the Manager of Accounting Operations, Manager of Systems Design and Integration, and the CEO on special projects, staff training, or other assignments as requested.

Competencies

  • High proficiency in Excel and strong competency in data tools such as Power BI, SQL, or similar platforms.
  • Solid understanding of nonprofit financial structures, grant reporting, and data requirements.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data validation skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex data clearly to non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong organization, project management, and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and support training or information sessions.
  • Mature judgment, accuracy, and attention to detail in a high‑volume environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Analytics, Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Business, or a related field.
  • Three to six years of directly related experience in data analysis, financial data management, or nonprofit data reporting.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, financial reporting, and nonprofit requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with nonprofit accounting systems such as MIP, Microix, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with grant reporting datasets and federal grant compliance.
  • Experience building automated reporting pipelines or dashboards.

Work Environment

New staff will work on‑site during orientation week and then transition to a hybrid in‑office/at‑home schedule. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, multi‑function devices (printers, scanners, fax), phones, and related tools. Dress code is business casual.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers for typing, pressing, handling, or feeling, and reach or lift with hands and arms.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full‑time, exempt position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Extra work may be required as job duties demand. As a professional employee, the Data Analyst is expected to recognize when deadlines or other work demands require additional time and effort.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out‑of‑area travel may be expected from time to time. Must have reliable personal transportation.
