Data Analyst (Heavy Civil Construction)

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented Data Analyst to join our team in St. Charles, MO. As a Data Analyst you will support decisionmaking across preconstruction, estimating, operations, and executive leadership by transforming project, financial, and operational data into clear insights. This role plays a critical part in improving project performance, forecasting, equipment utilization, productivity tracking, and overall business intelligence within a heavycivil construction environment.

The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, experience with large datasets, and a practical understanding of construction operations.

Key Responsibilities

Data ManagementAnalytics

  • Collect, clean, validate, and organize data from project management, estimating, scheduling, and financial systems.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and KPIs that track project performance, cost trends, production rates, and risk indicators.
  • Support estimating teams with historical data analysis, production modeling, bid validations, and benchmarking.
  • Analyze equipment utilization, fleet productivity, fuel consumption, and maintenance data to drive operational efficiency.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis on cost overruns, schedule delays, and production variances.

Business IntelligenceReporting

  • Build and maintain automated BI dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Identify trends in labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and market conditions.
  • Present findings to project managers, executives, and field leadership in clear, actionable formats.
  • Provide forecasting support for revenue, labor hours, cost-to-complete, and backlog projections.

SystemsProcess Improvement

  • Collaborate with IT, Estimating, and Operations to improve data flows and reporting processes.
  • Standardize data structures, naming conventions, and reporting templates across projects.
  • Assist with the implementation of new technology platforms such as ERP upgrades, field data capture systems, telematics platforms, and project controls software.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in data analysis, preferably in construction, engineering, or similar industries.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Power BI/Tableau, Excel (advanced), and data modeling.
  • Understanding of construction cost codes, production rates, schedules, and project lifecycles.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate data into actionable insights.

Preferred

  • Experience with heavy-civil or infrastructure projects (earthwork, utilities, structures, paving, etc.).
  • Familiarity with construction software such as:
    • HCSS / HeavyBid / HeavyJob
    • Primavera P6
    • Procore
    • Viewpoint / Spectrum
  • Knowledge of telematics systems for equipment (e.g., CAT VisionLink, Trimble, JDLink).
  • Experience with Python or R for advanced analytics.
