Data Annotator (Freelance)

Job Summary:

We are looking for detail-oriented Data Annotators to join our AI Engineering team and contribute to the development of advanced AI models through accurate voice activity detection annotation. The role involves listening to audio files, identifying human speech, and marking timestamps with precision while excluding non-speech sounds. This is a remote, flexible, task-based role with daily and monthly annotation targets.

Training and guidance will be provided to help you build practical skills in data annotation, AI model development, and collaboration within a global tech environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Audio Review: Open and review assigned audio files using provided tools (e.g., Audacity).
• Speech Detection: Accurately identify the start and end points of human speech in each clip.
• Timestamping: Record timestamps in seconds with one decimal place (e.g., 13.1). Ensure start < end with no overlaps.
• Segmentation Rules:
• Include natural pauses within sentences in the same segment if the silence gap is less than 100 ms.
• Merge two speech segments if separated by less than 100 ms of silence.
• Exclude non-speech sounds (e.g., background noise, music, typing, breathing, coughing, fillers like “uh” or “umm”).
• Annotation Sheet Update: Enter speech timestamps into the provided Excel sheet under the correct file tag.
• Quality & Consistency: Maintain accuracy, consistency, and adherence to annotation guidelines.
• Target Completion: Annotate 1,000 samples daily and 22,000 samples monthly.
• Collaboration: Attend a daily sync window (3 hours between 5:00 PM – 12:00 AM PKT) for updates, training, and clarifications. Communicate promptly about issues or uncertainties.

Requirements:

• Prior experience in transcription or data annotation is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow annotation guidelines precisely.
• Familiarity with audio editing tools (e.g., Audacity) is a plus.
• Good listening skills to differentiate human speech from background noise.
• Reliable internet connection and personal computer.
• Ability to meet daily/weekly targets consistently.
• Strong communication skills and team collaboration mindset.
