Data Center Consultant

The Data Center Consultant provides expert guidance in designing, implementing, and managing enterprise-grade data center solutions. This role focuses on ensuring high availability, scalability, energy efficiency, and security for on-premises and hybrid environments. The consultant will assess current infrastructure, recommend improvements, and deliver projects that align with business goals and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assessment & Strategy

• Evaluate existing data center infrastructure, capacity, and performance.
• Develop strategic roadmaps for data center consolidation, migration, or expansion.
• Recommend solutions for high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.

2. Design & Implementation

• Architect and deploy solutions covering compute, storage, network, and virtualization platforms.
• Oversee rack layouts, power distribution, cooling systems, and cabling standards.
• Plan and execute migrations to cloud, hybrid, or colocation facilities when required.

3. Operations & Optimization

• Establish monitoring systems to maintain uptime and optimize resource utilization.
• Conduct capacity planning and load balancing to support business growth.
• Implement energy-efficient practices to reduce operational costs.

4. Security & Compliance

• Define and enforce security policies for physical and logical data center assets.
• Ensure compliance with standards such as ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, or local regulatory frameworks.

5. Documentation & Training

• Maintain detailed architecture diagrams, inventory, and change-management records.
• Provide training and knowledge transfer to internal IT and facilities teams.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in data center design, operations, or consulting.
• Strong understanding of compute (servers, virtualization), storage (SAN/NAS), and enterprise networking.
• Knowledge of power, cooling, and environmental management systems.
• Familiarity with cloud and hybrid environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Excellent project management and client-facing communication skills.
