The Data Center Consultant provides expert guidance in designing, implementing, and managing enterprise-grade data center solutions. This role focuses on ensuring high availability, scalability, energy efficiency, and security for on-premises and hybrid environments. The consultant will assess current infrastructure, recommend improvements, and deliver projects that align with business goals and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assessment & Strategy
- Evaluate existing data center infrastructure, capacity, and performance.
- Develop strategic roadmaps for data center consolidation, migration, or expansion.
- Recommend solutions for high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
2. Design & Implementation
- Architect and deploy solutions covering compute, storage, network, and virtualization platforms.
- Oversee rack layouts, power distribution, cooling systems, and cabling standards.
- Plan and execute migrations to cloud, hybrid, or colocation facilities when required.
3. Operations & Optimization
- Establish monitoring systems to maintain uptime and optimize resource utilization.
- Conduct capacity planning and load balancing to support business growth.
- Implement energy-efficient practices to reduce operational costs.
4. Security & Compliance
- Define and enforce security policies for physical and logical data center assets.
- Ensure compliance with standards such as ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, or local regulatory frameworks.
5. Documentation & Training
- Maintain detailed architecture diagrams, inventory, and change-management records.
- Provide training and knowledge transfer to internal IT and facilities teams.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in data center design, operations, or consulting.
- Strong understanding of compute (servers, virtualization), storage (SAN/NAS), and enterprise networking.
- Knowledge of power, cooling, and environmental management systems.
- Familiarity with cloud and hybrid environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Excellent project management and client-facing communication skills.
