Data Center Electrical Systems & Rack Integration Engineer

As compute density and power requirements increase, reliable rack-level electrical integration has become a key factor in scaling modern data center infrastructure. This role ensures that new hardware platforms integrate consistently with OCI’s power infrastructure while enabling the telemetry and electrical insight needed to operate large-scale compute environments.

Key Responsibilities

Rack-Level Electrical Architecture & Integration

  • Define rack-level electrical architectures supporting high-density compute platforms.
  • Translate hardware electrical requirements into deployable rack specifications compatible with OCI data center power infrastructure.
  • Define integration requirements for rack electrical components including power shelves, rPDUs, busbars, cabling, and high-current connectors .
  • Establish rack-level power distribution, redundancy models, and protection boundaries in coordination with data center electrical infrastructure teams.
  • Participate in design reviews with hardware engineering teams to ensure new platforms integrate cleanly into OCI rack standards.

Hardware Power Characterization & Validation

  • Define and support electrical characterization testing for new IT hardware platforms.
  • Develop testing methodologies to measure power consumption, transient load behavior, and electrical compatibility with rack power infrastructure.
  • Ensure characterization data supports rack design specifications, capacity planning models, and infrastructure planning.
  • Work with lab teams and vendors to validate electrical performance prior to deployment.

Electrical Telemetry & Cross-Functional Systems Integration

  • Define requirements for rack-level power telemetry and instrumentation .
  • Partner with software and data engineering teams to ensure telemetry from power shelves, rPDUs, and hardware sensors is accessible and usable at fleet scale.
  • Serve as the electrical domain expert within DCEAM across hardware engineering, facilities engineering, and operations teams.
  • Support development of rack standards and electrical interface specifications that enable consistent global deployments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering , Power Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering related to data center infrastructure, hardware platforms, or high-density power systems .
  • Strong understanding of:
    • rack-level power distribution architectures
    • high-current electrical systems
    • power supply or power shelf architectures
    • electrical reliability and failure modes
  • Experience working with data center power infrastructure , including familiarity with electrical one-line diagrams, UPS architectures, and transformer-based power distribution.
  • Experience writing technical specifications, requirements, or engineering standards .
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements into clear engineering specifications and documentation .

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting high-density AI or GPU compute platforms (>40 kW racks) .
  • Familiarity with data center power quality metrics , including ITHD and related harmonic or power quality considerations.
  • Experience with AC/DC power supply input stage design or power electronics integration.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies such as solid-state transformers or advanced power conversion architectures .
  • Understanding of AI training workloads and their impact on power demand patterns at the data center or grid level .
  • Experience working with hardware ODMs, OEMs, or rack integrators.
  • Familiarity with hyperscale rack standards (e.g., ORv3 or Open Compute designs).
