AWS is looking for a Data Center Engineering Operations Engineer to join our expanding Data Centers (DC) Cloud regions. The role is a hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation responder. You will operate and maintain AWS DCs' world-class mechanical and electrical infrastructure following a process-oriented approach and oversee facility operations, ensuring the implementation of safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Safety

• Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and foster a world-class safety culture. As a facility owner team, ensure remediation of safety risks and issues in coordination with other teams. Own safety initiatives and projects to promote a strong safety culture.

• Engineering & Facility Operations and Maintenance

• Support electrical and mechanical equipment, including UPSs, switchgear, circuit breakers, ATSs, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC, exhaust fans, VFDs, and transformers.
• Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical systems, emergency generators, HVAC and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
• Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within internal SLAs.
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
• Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.

A day in the life

• Work rotational shifts of 4 days of 12-hour shifts (2 days followed by 2 nights) with 4 days off, including night, weekend, and holiday coverage; respond to on-call emergencies.
• Take daily operational readings of mechanical and electrical equipment through rounds and log readings (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).
• Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance.
• Perform tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation, including occasionally moving objects/materials (within regulatory weight limits), and working in outdoor weather, noisy environments, heights, and from ladders.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, construction management, or similar technical focus
• Knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC, Controls)
• Knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in data center engineering
• Experience leading and managing operations of critical facilities with electrical, mechanical, and control systems knowledge
• Knowledge of BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending
