Job Summary

The Data Center Operation Engineer is responsible for maintaining the availability, performance, and security of data center infrastructure. They ensure smooth operations of servers, storage, networking, power, and environmental systems while supporting incident management, maintenance, and continuous improvement activities.


Key Responsibilities

1. Infrastructure Operations & Monitoring

• Monitor servers, storage, and network systems using DCIM/NMS tools.

• Respond to alerts, troubleshoot issues, and escalate problems as needed.

• Maintain uptime and ensure compliance with SLAs.

2. Incident & Problem Management

• Diagnose hardware/software failures and coordinate resolution with vendors.

• Perform root cause analysis and document corrective actions.

• Participate in on-call rotations for emergencies.

3. Maintenance & Deployment

• Install, configure, and decommission hardware (servers, racks, switches, PDUs).

• Conduct preventive maintenance of cooling, power, and backup systems.

• Support virtualization, backup, and disaster recovery operations.

4. Security & Compliance

• Enforce physical security policies and access control procedures.

• Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO 27001, ITIL, Uptime Institute).

• Monitor and document environmental metrics (temperature, humidity, airflow).

5. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of assets, incidents, and changes.

• Prepare capacity and performance reports.

• Update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

6. Collaboration & Support

• Coordinate with IT, network, cybersecurity, and facilities teams.

• Provide support for deployments, migrations, and audits.

• Assist in planning data center upgrades and expansions.


Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.

Experience

• 2–5 years in data center operations, NOC, or infrastructure support.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of servers, storage systems, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V).

• Familiarity with networking (LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, Cisco/Juniper).

• Experience with monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix).

• Understanding of UPS, generators, CRAC/HVAC and power distribution.

• Basic knowledge of ITSM frameworks (ITIL).

Soft Skills

• Strong problem-solving abilities.

• Good communication and teamwork.

• Ability to work under pressure and within 24x7 environments.
