Data Center Technician – San Jose, Calif

An Oracle Data Center Technician will perform key roles to delivering core infrastructure & foundational technologies within the OCI data center environments. As a skilled technician working on a wide range of data center systems. You perform repairs, installations and monitoring for your data center spaces. Developing an understand of all aspects of equipment that you support, and data center operations. Continuing to develop your overall skills to drive performance and improvements to current processes, working automate where applicable with the aim towards simplification. You know when to act and are able to take direction, paying close attention to the details involved when working within the data center environment. Note: This is a 24/7/365 position on-site in San Jose, Calif, and includes day/night shift, weekend and holiday work with occasional travel based on business requirements.

Required Skills

  • 2+ years working in an IT environment.
  • Troubleshooting Experience on servers, networking devices, and IT equipment.
  • Inventory management experience. Ordering, receiving, and shipping server parts.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on business needs and urgency.
  • Ability to communicate and write effectively in both verbal and written communication mediums.
  • Experience taking on-call shifts and ability to respond to critical events as needed.
  • Experience advancing issues to Senior onsite staff and management as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Show professionalism in your daily routine in a 24/7/365 working environment.
  • Be able to be flexible to work multiple shift schedules.
  • Be punctual in arriving for shifts on time and provide proper handover reports at end of shift for updates to the next team member(s).
  • Receive/ship data center equipment and parts as needed.
  • Install, Remove, and Troubleshoot hardware in data centers racks without disturbing other hardware and critical infrastructure on site.
  • Maintain asset inventory and update internal application as needed.
  • Be accessible via cell phone and willing to work on onsite emergencies as needed.
  • Participate and complete training that aligns with corporate objectives to bridge skill gaps and learn new relevant technologies.

Daily Job Duties:

  • Hardware installation & decommission of enterprise servers and cabling infrastructure.
  • Troubleshooting and repair of data center hardware and networking infrastructure.
  • Rack and stack of data center equipment, including but not limited to servers, networking devices, monitoring systems, and other equipment.
  • Rack installation including putting racks in place, cabling, power up, and handoff of servers to internal provisioning teams.
  • Cabling, labeling, replacement, and troubleshooting of fiber/copper/telecom cables as well as patch panel systems.
    • Utilizing ladders at times for access and placement.
  • Inventory process: Receive, track, and ship data center equipment as needed.
  • Understand, interpret, and alignment to local site requirements.
  • Be punctual in arriving for shifts on time and provide proper handover reports after shift to the next team member(s).
  • Provide on-call emergency support at pre-determined times.
  • Participate and complete training that aligns with corporate objectives to bridge skill gaps and learn new relevant technologies.
  • Support and receive direction from senior team members.
  • Monitoring of DC environments using monitoring tools.
  • Monitoring and responding in a ticketing environment that is used and monitored by multiple internal Oracle Cloud service owners and teams.
  • Documentation of activities and strict alignment to SOP’s.
  • Decommission life cycle of data center hardware.
  • Inventory process, order replacement parts, and return failed parts as required.
  • System power supplies and cabling install, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • You should be able to complete small projects on your own and work with your manager in planning and completing larger local projects.
