Data & Database Engineer

Amalgamated Sugar Company is looking for a Data and Database Engineer to implement, manage & support the SQL-Server environment for Amalgamated Sugar. Support and develop reporting and business intelligence solutions for use by business users leveraging data from DB2, SQL Server, or other existing systems and sources. As a good team player, I collaborate and coordinate on developing information delivery, WEB, other applications, and business solutions. Requires the ability to take requirements given to you by an IT customer and turn them into a solution.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports To IT Infrastructure Manager

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provide installation, configuration, and ongoing support for SQL Server Database, reporting, and BI environments

Develop SQL queries and stored procedures to satisfy data and reporting requirements.

Design and develop data warehouse platform, capabilities, data schemas, and models

Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines to support data and analytical needs.

Write queries to support data analysis

Ability to create source-to-target mapping documents

Perform unit testing on all published deliverables and track/document test cases

Advanced level of SQL programming for data analysis is required

Proven ability in Performance Tuning and Query Optimization by Indexing, Partitioning and Denormalization

Must have demonstrated the ability to solve complex problems with minimal direction

Must be able to interact effectively and patiently with customers, especially while under pressure.

The ability to work on multiple projects/tasks simultaneously to meet project deadlines for self and others as required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or Mathematics

5 + years of demonstrated coding in writing Complex Stored Procedures, Queries, Views, User Defined Functions, Cursors, and Common Table Expressions using SQL or T-SQL.

5 + years of experience in Data Mining (i.e., SQL, ETL, complex data warehouses)

5 + years of experience working with ETL tools like SSIS

5 + years of experience in designing and developing data models for Transactions and Reporting.

• 2+ years of experience building analytics using BI tools, such as Power Bi

Proficiency in Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse environment with involvement in design, development, implementation, troubleshooting, and support of ETL process

Strong query and stored procedure writing

Familiarity with entity/relationship diagramming and database theory

Experience with performance tuning

Ability to make design recommendations based on business rules and use case documents

Ability to train and mentor others

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Experience or familiarity with .NET programming (C#)
Experience or familiarity with Python
Experience or familiarity with DB2 SQL Queries and general Database technologies
Practical experience using version control software like GIT Hub or Visual Source Safe in a team environment
