Data Engineer

Data Engineer UK & I

Permanent

Hybrid/Remote, the role will require travel for key business meetings on a monthly basis. The location of the meetings can vary

The Role Mission & Responsibilities:

The Local Data Engineer designs, builds, and maintains the country’s data pipelines (ingestion → transformation → exposure). The role works closely with Data Analysts to frame requirements and deliver reliable, well-documented, and maintainable datasets, with a progressive transfer of ownership to analytics teams.

  • Build end-to-end data pipelines: ingestion, cleansing, transformation, modeling, and exposure (datasets / tables / views).
  • Industrialize data flows: error handling, retries, performance, scalability, and cost optimization.
  • Deploy and operate pipelines in production (run, monitoring, fixes).
  • Design “analytics-ready” datasets (stable, understandable, documented).
  • Organize the handover through documentation, conventions, short training sessions, and progressive transfer of ownership on data usage and “light” functional evolutions (new fields, simple rules), within the agreed framework.
  • Apply defined patterns and standards (naming, modeling, testing, security, documentation).
  • Contribute to the “build once, reuse across countries” approach by sharing needs, patterns, and reusable improvements.
  • Implement shared group data models and manage well-framed local extensions.
  • Implement data quality controls (tests, validations, alerts) and ensure expected traceability

The Successful Candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Strong SQL skills, data modeling, pipeline development, and industrial best practices.
  • Cloud experience appreciated (Azure preferred).
  • Ability to work in a federated environment: local autonomy with strong group alignment.
  • Strong collaboration skills with Data Analysts (framing, delivery, handover, pedagogy).
  • Ability to translate technical process to non technical stakeholders

Success in this role will look like:

  • Key pipelines built and running in production with reliability and observability aligned with standards.
  • “Analytics-ready” datasets delivered with clear documentation and business rules.
  • Effective handover to Data Analysts for usage and simple functional evolutions.
  • Group consistency respected: reuse of shared models and patterns, controlled local extensions.
  • Data quality under control and incidents managed efficiently.
