Data Engineer II (Hybrid Work Schedule)

Data Engineer II

Location: Houston, TX or Dallas, TX

Model of Work: Hybrid in Texas (On-Site/In-Office a minimum of 2 days/week)

Are you excited by challenges? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced, international and dynamic environment? Then now is the time to join Quorum Software, a rapidly growing company and industry leader in oil & gas transformation.

Quorum Software is the world's largest provider of digital technology focused solely on business workflows that empower the next evolution of energy. From emerging companies to supermajors, throughout every region of the globe, customers rely on Quorum's proven innovation and unmatched global expertise to streamline business operations and make data-driven decisions that optimize profitability and growth. Our industry-leading solutions are transforming energy companies across the entire value chain, helping visionary leaders evolve their organizations into modern energy companies.

Overview

We are looking for a Data Engineer II to take a hands-on ownership role on our Data Platform team, driving the design, development, and reliability of the data infrastructure that powers analytics, reporting, and AI/ML capabilities across Quorum’s product portfolio. You will independently own data pipelines and data models end-to-end—from requirements gathering through production deployment and ongoing optimization.

This role is for someone who has built and shipped data solutions in a production environment and is ready to take on broader scope and greater technical ownership. You’ll be expected to make sound design decisions, proactively identify and resolve data quality issues, and contribute to the technical direction of our platform. You will report to the Data Platform team manager and collaborate closely with product engineering teams, data architects, and data scientists. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring junior data engineers and elevating the team’s engineering standards.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring of data pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver data from multiple source systems into our centralized data platform
  • Design and implement dimensional data models (fact and dimension tables, star/snowflake schemas) in collaboration with the data architecture team, ensuring models meet performance, scalability, and usability requirements
  • Write performant, well-tested SQL and Python transformations for complex data processing workloads, proactively optimizing for cost and execution time
  • Understanding and ability to build medallion architecture within a Data Lake
  • Build and maintain robust data quality frameworks including validation rules, anomaly detection, alerting, and reconciliation processes that ensure data accuracy at scale
  • Work hands-on with our cloud data platform (Databricks, Delta Lake, Azure Data Services, or similar) to architect and deliver production-grade data solutions
  • Partner directly with product engineering teams to deeply understand source system schemas, data flows, and business logic across Quorum’s Upstream, Measurement, and Midstream product lines, and translate that understanding into well-structured data assets
  • Drive improvements to data governance practices including data catalog maintenance, documentation standards, lineage tracking, and metadata management
  • Lead technical design discussions for new data pipeline and modeling work, evaluating trade-offs and recommending approaches to the team
  • Troubleshoot complex data pipeline failures and data integrity issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing durable fixes
  • Mentor and support junior data engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing, helping elevate the team’s overall technical capability
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, tooling, and automation across the data platform team
  • Participate in and contribute to agile development processes including sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives
  • And other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 2–4 years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related data-focused role with production deployment experience
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, including complex queries, performance tuning, CTEs, window functions, and working with large-scale datasets
  • Solid programming skills in Python, including experience with data processing frameworks (e.g., PySpark, Pandas, or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience designing and building ETL/ELT pipelines in a production environment, including error handling, idempotency, and monitoring
  • Working knowledge of dimensional data modeling (star schema, slowly changing dimensions, conformed dimensions) and the ability to translate business requirements into data models
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure (Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL) or Databricks
  • Proficiency with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices for data engineering workflows
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of diagnosing and resolving complex data issues independently
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Skills

  • Production experience with Databricks, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, or Unity Catalog
  • Experience with data orchestration and transformation tools such as Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory, or dbt
  • Familiarity with data quality frameworks and testing tools (e.g., Great Expectations, dbt tests, or custom validation frameworks)
  • Understanding of data governance principles, data lineage, and catalog tools (e.g., Purview, Unity Catalog, or similar)
  • Exposure to AI/ML workflows and how data engineering supports machine learning pipelines (e.g., feature stores, training dataset curation, model monitoring data)
  • Experience working in a multi-product or multi-team engineering organization where cross-team coordination is required
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry or energy sector is a plus but not required
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code or DevOps practices for data platform management
  • Experience on, or ability to work with Microsoft Fabric & OneLake
