Role Summary
The
Data Governance Consultant
will be responsible for advising and partnering with clients to establish, mature, and optimize their data governance programs. This involves defining and implementing
data governance policies, processes, and standards
, developing robust governance frameworks and operating models, and driving
change management
activities. The consultant will serve as a subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance on data usage, compliance, and best practices, often leveraging industry standards like
DAMA
.
Key Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Framework Development
-
Define and implement client-specific
data governance policies and processes
, ensuring adherence to relevant global and local standards (e.g., DAMA, ADDA, NDMO).

Design and refresh the
data governance framework and operating model
for clients, including defining relevant roles and responsibilities and establishing clear accountability for key data assets (e.g., assigning data stewards and owners).

Provide strategic advice and guidance on
data usage and management activities
to client Data Management Offices (DMOs) and leadership.

Practice and follow
DMBOK
standards and guidelines when implementing or defining data governance and strategic initiatives.
Implementation & Compliance

Design and manage the implementation of
change management activities
for client data governance programs, including communication planning and execution.

Develop and run processes to ensure ongoing
compliance with defined data policies
across client organizations.

Conduct
compliance audits
and recommend
corrective actions
.

Assist in the design and construction of workflows to
automate policies and procedures
using appropriate data governance tools.
Reporting & Capability Building

Develop and track
data governance operational KPIs
for client programs and report progress to client stakeholders and consulting leadership.

Design and run
capability building programs
and
awareness sessions
with client business units to foster a data-centric culture and understanding of data governance principles.
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree
in information management, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

+5 years
of relevant experience in
data governance design and implementation
, ideally within a consulting environment or enterprise-level governance role.

Extensive knowledge of
data governance operating models
and industry frameworks.
Certifications (Preferred)
-
Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) Practitioner
certification from DAMA
