Job Title: Commvault Engineer
Job Summary
The Commvault Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and support of enterprise backup, recovery, and data protection solutions using Commvault technologies. The role ensures data availability, integrity, compliance, and disaster recovery readiness across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage Commvault backup and recovery solutions
- Configure and maintain Commvault CommServe, MediaAgents, and Clients
- Implement backup, restore, replication, archiving, and disaster recovery strategies
- Monitor backup jobs, troubleshoot failures, and perform root cause analysis
- Perform data restores for applications, databases, VMs, and file systems
- Manage Commvault upgrades, patches, and capacity planning
- Integrate Commvault with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Support virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and databases (SQL, Oracle, SAP, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with data retention, security, and regulatory requirements
- Automate backup operations using Commvault workflows and scripts
- Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams
- Participate in DR testing and business continuity planning
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with Commvault Complete Data Protection
- Experience with CommServe, MediaAgent, deduplication, storage policies
- Knowledge of backup concepts: full/incremental, snapshots, replication
- Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
- Familiarity with SAN/NAS storage technologies
- Experience with VMware vSphere and/or Hyper-V backups
- Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, firewalls, ports)
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Preferred Skills
- Commvault certifications (e.g., Commvault Professional or Advanced)
- Cloud backup experience (Azure Backup, AWS S3, Blob storage)
- Scripting experience (PowerShell, Bash, Python)
- Experience with ransomware protection and immutable storage
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks (ISO, SOC, HIPAA, GDPR)
- Experience in large enterprise or MSP environments
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- 2–3 years of experience in backup, storage, or data protection roles
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
- Ability to handle on-call or after-hours support when required
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
